Nanofiltration (NF) membranes can play an important role to mitigate the nitrate pollution, emphasizing necessity for understanding its mass transport mechanism enhance water purification strategies. This study focuses on separation capabilities of thin film composite NF having a polyamide (PA) selective layer. The layer was fabricated through interfacial polymerization, with varying piperazine (PIP) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) monomer concentrations porous polyacrylonitrile substrates. We studied their retention aqueous solutions PEG 200, single salts (NaCl, NaNO3, Na2SO4), mixed (NaCl + NaNO3 Na2SO4). Through new fitting scheme, Donnan Steric Pore Model Dielectric Exclusion (DSPM-DE) utilized correlate PIP TMC ion exclusion mechanisms responsible membranes' capabilities. model could simulate Na+/NO3-/SO42- system but not Na+/NO3-/Cl-. diffusion were dominant partitioning mechanisms, respectively, explaining high retentions sulfate (96 99 %) negative (−24 11 %). sheds light potential PA layers efficient nitrate/sulfate separation, providing valuable insights into underlying mechanisms.

Abstract Aramid nanofibers (ANFs), as promising organic nano building blocks for their high mechanical strength and thermal stability, are widely applied to fabricate energy‐efficient membranes ionic molecular sieving in aqueous solutions. However, the existing ANFs often have small diameters, limiting permeability of resulting membranes. Here, with a diameter hundred‐nanometer scale fabricated through progressive protonation process, which dimethylformamide secondary deprotonation solvent is added into dimethyl sulfoxide provide mild deformation environment. Notably, water flux can reach up 410 L m −2 h −1 bar , 40 times than commercially available nanofiltration much currently reported ANF‐based Impressively, these super‐stable nanochannels maintain over 194 wide range pH values from 4 10 show excellent long‐term durability 120 h. The application provides new approach designing next generation balance trade‐off between selectivity.
