Global human exposure of atmospheric polybrominated diphenyl ethers: Variation patterns of exposure pathways and phase contributions

At
present,
there
are
still
certain
limitations
in
the
research
on
pathways
and
phase
contributions
of
semi-volatile
organic
compounds
(SVOCs)
to
human
exposure
atmosphere.
This
study
clarified
contribution
rates
inhalation
dermal
particulate
gaseous
polybrominated
diphenyl
ethers
(PBDEs)
a
global
scale,
as
well
their
influencing
factors
mechanisms.
Data
PBDEs
were
collected
from
125
cities
across
38
countries
regions
predict
size-resolved
levels,
utilizing
our
previous
method
for
alongside
size-dependent
prediction
developed
this
study.
The
distribution
gas
showed
significant
negative
correlation
(r
=
-
0.40,
p
<
0.05)
with
level
per
capita
GDP,
resulting
similar
pattern
atmospheric
PBDEs.
highest
daily
intake
was
found
Africa
(75.4
pg/(kg·day)),
followed
by
Asia

Brominated
flame
retardants
(BFRs)
are
synthetic
chemicals
widely
used
to
reduce
the
flammability
of
consumer
products,
including
electronics,
textiles,
and
furniture.
Despite
their
effectiveness
in
fire
prevention,
BFRs
pose
significant
environmental
health
risks
due
persistence,
bioaccumulation,
potential
toxicity.
This
review
provides
a
comprehensive
examination
BFRs,
focusing
on
recent
advancements
analytical
methods
for
detection
quantification
biological
samples.
The
study
explored
physicochemical
properties
that
influence
BFR
distribution
transport
various
matrices,
soil,
water,
air,
sediments,
biota.
also
summarizes
current
knowledge
occurrence
fate
highlighting
mobility
long-range
transport.
Furthermore,
discusses
associated
with
exposure,
emphasizing
endocrine-disrupting
effects
impact
reproductive
neurological
functions.
By
integrating
findings
from
studies,
this
aims
enhance
understanding
behavior
inform
regulatory
strategies
mitigate
adverse
human
environment.

Brominated
flame
retardants
(BFRs)
are
a
type
of
widespread
pollutant
that
can
be
transmitted
through
particulate
matter,
such
as
dust
in
the
air,
and
have
been
associated
with
various
adverse
health
effects,
diabetes,
metabolic
syndrome,
cardiovascular
disease.
However,
there
is
limited
research
on
link
between
exposure
to
mixtures
BFRs
depression
general
population.
To
analyze
association
population,
nationally
representative
data
from
National
Health
Nutrition
Examination
Survey
(NHANES;
2005-2016)
were
used.
In
final
analysis,
total
8138
adults
aged
20
years
older
included.
investigate

relationship

logistic
regression,
restricted
cubic
spline
(RCS),
quantile-based
g
computation
(QGC),
weighted
quantile
sum
(WQS)

findings
showed
serum
BFR
concentrations
depressive
symptoms
over
broad
spectrum.

adjustment
for
confounders
