Microplastics (MPs) and antibiotics are pervasive pollutants that may pose a risk to human health. Studies have shown both MPs adversely affect lipid metabolism increase the of obesity. However, it remains unclear whether combined exposure these intensify cumulative detrimental effect on obesity metabolism. This study demonstrated impact polystyrene (PS, 25 nm) ciprofloxacin (CIP), individually combined, for 30 d 90 hepatic male C57BL/6J mice. The results showed mice exposed PS CIP either or exhibited disorders such as increased body weight, enlarged adipocytes, triglyceride accumulation in liver, higher HDL-C. Differentially expressed proteins were identified via proteomic analysis. findings indicated caused abnormal bile acid (BA) secretion liver inhibited BA pathway, which resulted intrahepatic cholestasis. Furthermore, resolved cholestasis reduced overall number differentially proteins. Intestinal pathology revealed more severe damage after d, while decreased adverse effect. Combined organism. adaptive capacity organism during prolonged mitigated by both, but did not imply complete eradication effects. found weight gain, possibly due changes gut flora suppressed energy These simultaneous exacerbated causing short-term Prolonged body, exhibiting varied toxicity outcomes mechanisms at different durations. offers novel insights into antibiotic metabolic abnormalities provides scientific basis assessing risks. It also emphasizes resulting from (short-term) toxic persist long-term chronic needs warrants.

The relationship between per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure human health has received widespread attention. This review focuses on the key distinctions in PFAS occupational population general from different countries. A systematic summary is made external environment, pathways, internal levels, effects of population. manufacturing, use, disposal processes increase their concentration levels ambient leading to significantly higher concentrations than background areas. Different pathways may lead molecular initiating events outcomes Moreover, are nearly one hundred times those Mixed more unknown another important feature Although not associated with mortality, can disrupt metabolic cause adverse liver, kidney, lipid homeostasis. Therefore, stringent protections for necessary reduce risks.

This study employs a gut-liver-on-a-chip (GLOC) to explore microplastics (MPs) transport, absorption, and associated liver damage. Enhanced intestinal peristalsis significantly reduces MPs underscoring its protective role for the liver.
