In recent times, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on sulfite activation via transition metal ions have gained significant attention for water decontamination. this work, we unexpectedly discovered that Mn(II) was inefficient in treatment. Intriguingly, the introduction of amino ligands such as nitrilotriacetic acid and picolinic significantly enhanced performance activation, enabling effective abatement contaminants. By combining quenching, chemical probing, 18O isotope tracing, electrochemical experiments, study addressed why Mn(II)/sulfite system sluggish contaminants degradation, how Mn(V) generated Mn(II)/sulfite/amino ligand system, different complexing exhibited distinct performances. We demonstrated notably activity with production stabilized Mn(III), which underwent further conversion to species, resulting rapid degradation This represents first discovery unexpected formation from low-valence manganese a sulfite-based system. Furthermore, spectral characteristics species under environmental pH conditions were identified time. These findings introduce novel process decontamination will broaden our understanding sulfite-activation-based AOPs well application chemistry treatment beyond.

Natural polyphenols can be oxidized into reactive quinones, which might play a key role in the removal of specific contaminants natural polyphenol-related advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). In this study, peracetic acid (PAA) was employed combination with protocatechuic (PCA) to remove sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs) from water. More than 95% sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and other SAs observed PCA/PAA system, neutral pH conditions (5.0-8.0) were more conducive SMX. The system exhibited great anti-interference ability against complex water matrices. ortho-Quinone, generated PCA by PAA, played dominant SMX removal. Electrons tended transfer ortho-quinones form covalent bonds, resulting production less toxic oligomers via overlooked polymerization pathway. A reduction toxicity solution found following treatment system. interestingly, several structurally related could also facilitate using PAA as oxidant. Overall, study proposes novel strategy for developing quinones dominated AOPs robust performance, well enhances understanding contaminant an pathway AOPs.

The extensive use of tetracyclines in livestock poses health risks due to their residues animal-derived food; therefore, developing simple detection methods replace complex traditional approaches is paramount importance. Here, we developed a dual-ligand zinc-based metal-organic framework material, Zn-BTC-BDC-NH2 (denoted as ZTD), for the tetracyclines. intrinsic blue fluorescence ZTD was quenched upon introduction electron transfer from -NH2 -CO- and -OH groups tetracycline molecules; meanwhile, new green emission generated through π-π stacking between aromatic rings formation complexes Zn2+ C-O/C═O groups. In real food samples, exhibited recovery rates ranging 93.62 110.66%, with limits low 0.011 μmol·L-1. Additionally, test paper portable detection. This study presents novel method, offering insights into multiligand preparation future sensing method design.
