More than 70 years of industrial production per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have resulted in their ubiquitous presence the environment on a global scale, although differences sources, transport fate lead to variability occurrence environment. Gull eggs are excellent bioindicators environmental pollution, especially for persistent organic pollutants such as PFAS, known bioaccumulate organisms be deposited bird by maternal transfer. Using yellow-legged gull (Larus michahellis) eggs, we investigated more 30 including most common chemicals (i.e., legacy PFAS) well alternatives emerging Bay Marseille, second largest city France. Compared from other colonies along Mediterranean coast, those Marseille had PFAS concentrations ranging slightly higher up four times lower, suggesting that this area cannot specifically identified hotspot these compounds. We also found several 8:2 10:2 FTS, 7:3 FTCA or PFECHS all collected eggs. Although scarcity toxicity thresholds seabirds, during embryogenesis, does not enable any precise statement about risks faced population, study contributes effort documenting contamination coasts while providing valuable novel inputs concern. Identifying exposure free-ranging species participate determine main target testing wildlife.
