The spread of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment poses a severe threat to soil organisms, aquatic life, human health. Many PFAS compounds are mobile easily transported from soils groundwater further surface waters. Leaching tests valuable tools for assessing site-specific leaching behaviour contaminants. Here, we report results an evaluation two standardized PFAS-contaminated materials: batch test (ISO 21268-2:2019) using either demineralized water or 1 mM CaCl2 as leachants (liquid-to-solid (L/S) ratio 10) up-flow percolation 21268-3:2019) leachant. One field-contaminated three spiked (12 compounds) (aged 5 months) were included study. Desorption kinetics fast equilibrium was obtained all within 24 h, prescribed equilibration time. same solubility short-chain (PFBA, PFHxA, PFHpA, PFBS) CaCl2, whereas significantly lower often observed long-chain than water, probably due decreased charge repulsion between surfaces compounds. In test, concentrations leachates rapidly with increasing L/S, contrast PFAS, where gradually remained constant. Solid–solution partitioning coefficients (Kd), calculated data (1 CaCl2), generally agreement, although differing by more orders magnitude different Uncertainties pitfalls when calculating Kd values also explored.
