Abstract
Chemicals
play
an
important
role
in
maintaining
our
quality
of
life.
Unfortunately,
inappropriate
chemicals
and
waste
management
result
the
accumulation
contaminants
environment
that
pose
a
risk
to
exposed
biota
humans.
Being
cognizant
Indigenous
knowledge
values
within
represent
key
components
environmental
justice,
but
they
are
not
being
included
current
global
programs.
Here,
we
describe
process
leading
development
independent
nonpartisan
national
strategy
manage
emerging
New
Zealand
is
reflective
Māori
cultural
perspectives.
An
inclusive
partnership-based
approach
was
used
capture
broad
selection
views
perspectives
provide
opportunities
engage
with
representatives
from
range
sectors
including
scientists,
members
wider
community,
partners
for
strategy.
A
series
workshops
held
over
several
years
helped
refine
document
ensure
it
fit
purpose
clear
implementation
pathway
maximize
uptake
achieve
inspirational
shared
vision.
This
initiative
highlighted
need
invest
significant
time
effort
up
front
develop
strong
relationships
across
required
success.
All
parties
involved
must
operate
respect
advantages
reciprocity
all
systems
recognized
valued
objectives
