The growing environmental concerns associated with petrochemical-based adhesives have driven interest in sustainable alternatives. This study investigates the use of bio-oil, derived from municipal sewage sludge (MSS) through hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL), as a reactive filler polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (pMDI) wood adhesives. rich hydroxyl and carbonyl functional groups, was characterized using FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), elemental analysis, NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance). These groups interact isocyanate pMDI, enabling crosslinking enhancing adhesive performance. Various MSS bio-oil pMDI formulations were evaluated for tensile shear strength on Southern yellow pine veneers under dry wet conditions. formulation 1:4 to weight ratio exhibited best performance, achieving strengths 1.96 MPa (dry) 1.66 (wet). Higher content led decreased strength, attributed reduced increased moisture sensitivity. demonstrates potential MSS-derived additive adhesives, offering benefits without significantly compromising performance marking step toward greener solutions.

This paper aims to provide a contribution understanding the role of sludge macro-components (lipids, proteins and carbohydrates) on yield/quality bio-crude obtained via hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). was pursued by analysing HTL process real sludges mixtures thereof at different compositions, topic that has been explored in very limited way pertinent literature. The experiments were run with municipal sludge, tannery mixture them 25:75, 50:50 75:25 weight ratios batch reactor 350 °C for residence times. outcomes single showed greater yield one (42.5% 10 min), which is linked its significant carbohydrate content. results from suggested carbohydrate-to-protein mass ratio 2:1 would maximise (average value about 38%). Moreover, LC-MS NMR analyses highlighted mixed contributed formation higher number compounds after treatment, respect pure or an increase amine, alcohols aromatic compounds.
