Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a subtype of inflammatory bowel disease affecting the colon with idiopathic origin. Melinjo endosperm extract (MeE) contains polyphenolic compounds that have antioxidative and anticancer properties. We examined effect MeE on inflammation mucin expression in colons UC mice treated dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). C57BL/6J male were assigned into four categories: control, DSS + 0% MeE, 0.1% 0.5% MeE. The control group was provided distilled water standard chow diet for 4 weeks. In groups, 3 weeks followed by diets drinking containing 3% week. Macrophage count, mucus area stained Alcian blue (AB), levels adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), nuclear factor-κB (NFκB) p65, silent information regulator (Sirt) 1 expression, as well proinflammatory mediators Mucin 2 mRNA assessed. group, AB-stained areas observed to be lower than those controls. However, +0.5% significantly increased. Compared macrophage number, IL-1β mRNA, NFκB p65 showed significant increase. Conversely, these decreased group. phosphorylated AMPK Sirt1 upregulated conclusion, may alleviate injury reducing infiltration regulating AMPK/NFκB/Sirt1 pathway.

Resveratrol and its analogs are phytochemicals. Human 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (3β-HSD1) synthesizes steroid hormones for normal pregnancy or promoting cancer metastasis. Whether they inhibit 3β-HSD1 remains unclear. In this study, the inhibitory potency, mode of action, structure-activity relationship, docking parameters resveratrol on rat homolog 3β-HSD4 were analyzed.
