Salinity in water and soil is one of the major environmental factors limiting productivity agronomic horticultural crops. In basil (Ocimum basilicum L., Lamiaceae) other Ocimum species, information on plant response to mild salinity levels, often induced by irrigation or fertigation systems, scarce. present work, we tested effectiveness a microbial-based biostimulant containing two strains arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) Trichoderma koningii sustaining greenhouse yield traits, subjected stresses (25 mM [low] 50 [high] modulated augmenting osmotic potential with NaCl) compared non-stressed control. The impact stress was further appraised terms physiology, morphological ontogenesis composition polyphenols volatile organic compounds (VOC). As expected, increasing solution strongly depressed yield, nutrient uptake concentration, reduced photosynthetic activity leaf potential, increased Na Cl accumulation polyphenols. addition, it decreased concentration Eucalyptol β-Linalool, its main essential oil constituents. Irrespective level, multispecies inoculum benefited growth, number area, Ca, Mg, B, p-coumaric chicoric acids, while nitrate concentrations shoots affected some minor VOC benefits derived from term quality harnessed different mechanisms depending degree stress. under low-stress conditions, directly stimulated after an increase Fe Mn availability for plants caffeic rosmarinic acids. high mostly acted sequestration P plant, moreover polyphenols, especially ferulic acids quercetin-rutinoside shoots. Notably, did not affect composition, thus suggesting that interact biosynthesis. These results clearly indicate beneficial inocula constitute valuable tool improving suboptimal conditions imposing low

The mechanisms underlying rice root responses to drought during the early developmental stages are yet unknown. This study aimed determine metabolic differences in IR64, a shallow-rooting, drought-susceptible genotype, and Azucena, drought-tolerant deep-rooting genotype under stress. morphological evaluation revealed that Azucena might evade water stress by increasing lateral system growth, surface area, length access water. At same time, IR64 may rely mainly on cell wall thickening tolerate Furthermore, significant were observed 49 metabolites 80 for which most implicated secondary metabolism, amino acid nucleotide metabolism sugar alcohol metabolism. Among these metabolites, positive correlation was found between allantoin, galactaric acid, gluconic glucose, tolerance. These serve as markers of tolerance screening programs. Based corresponding biological pathways analysis differentially abundant (DAMs), biosynthesis alkaloid-derivatives shikimate pathway, fatty biosynthesis, purine TCA cycle statistically enriched pathway response. However, starch sucrose pathways.Metabolic marker candidates identified both genotypes. Thus, experimentally determined distinct can be used development or selection

Rhizosphere functioning depends on plant traits, but the underlying genotypic properties are poorly understood. Wheat has undergone several domestication events combined with genomic hybridization, including acquisition by Triticum dicoccon (AABB genome) of D genome from Aegilops tauschii, resulting into bread wheat aestivum (AABBDD genome). The is likely to modulate beneficial wheat-microbe interactions, data needed substantiate this. Here, we tested hypothesis that important for soil interactions 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase producers, a key microbial functional group enhances performance fine-tuning ethylene metabolism in roots. A range lines T. (AABBDD), diccocon (AABB) and Ae. tauschii (DD) were compared based abundance (qPCR acdS gene marker), diversity (Illumina MiSeq) potential ACC activity (colorimetric assays) producers rhizosphere. Results showed was lower D-genome wheats than D-negative at 40 days, rhizosphere landraces cultivars (recent old), while between. community structure differed aestivum, differences occurred also between various genotype categories aestivum. Overall, had negative impact ability recruit soil, recent breeding displayed improved
