Abstract
Selective
C3
functionalization
of
unbiased
pyridines
represents
a
significant
challenge
in
organic
synthesis.
While
seminal
work
this
area
has
enabled
access
to
various
C3-substituted
via
dearomatized
intermediates,
the
direct
introduction
hydroxy
group
at
position
is
still
challenging.
In
context,
we
have
developed
valence
isomerization
reaction
triggered
by
photoexcitation
pyridine
N-oxides
deliver
synthetically
challenging
C3-hydroxy
products.
