Abstract The development of an oxa-Diels–Alder reaction between sultines and carbonyl compounds is reported. o-Quinodimethanes, generated from sultines, undergo a [4+2]-cycloaddition with activated aldehydes or ketones in the presence Cu(OTf)2 to provide variety functionalized isochromans, including spiroisochromans, up 99% yield. developed protocol demonstrates broad functional-group compatibility tolerates unprotected isatins bearing free NH-functionalities.

Abstract Cycloaddition reactions serve as exceptionally useful strategy to provide atom‐economical, efficient and practical access complex molecules from simple starting materials. The [4+2]‐cycloaddition reaction allows for the stereospecific construction of six‐membered carbo‐/heterocycles. catalyzed by transition metals are potent methods rapid highly functionalized molecular frameworks. This review article summarizes different reports on transition‐metal involving various such Pd, Cu, Rh, Au, Fe, Ni, Sc, Sn, Hf, Ag, Mn, Dy, Co etc. straightforward pharmaceutically active heterocycles. Abstract Reported herein is the development of a normal electron‐demand, three‐component aza‐Diels‐Alder reaction between sultines, aldehydes, and amines. In presence Cu(OTf) 2 as Lewis acid catalyst, use sultines o ‐quinodimethane precursors in conjunction with situ generation imines enables facile preparation various polysubstituted tetrahydro‐isoquinoline derivatives from readily available substrates. The synthetic utility these products was further explored through number product transformations, including syntheses tricyclic N ‐heterocycles.
