Direct
structural
modification
of
small-molecule
fluorophores
represents
a
straightforward
and
appealing
strategy
for
accessing
new
fluorescent
dyes
with
desired
functionalities.
We
report
herein
general
efficient
visible-light-mediated
method
the
direct
C-H
functionalization
BODIPY,
an
important
chromophore,
using
readily
accessible
bench-stable
aryl
alkenylthianthrenium
salts.
This
practical
approach
operates
at
room
temperature
extraordinary
site-selectivity,
providing
step-economical
means
to
construct
various
valuable
aryl-
alkenyl-substituted
BODIPY
dyes.
Remarkably,
this
protocol
encompasses
broad
substrate
scope
excellent
functional-group
tolerance,
allows
modular
synthesis
sophisticated
symmetrical
asymmetrical
disubstituted
BODIPYs
by
simply
employing
different
combinations
thianthrenium
Moreover,
late-stage
complex
drug
molecules
further
highlights
potential
novel
methodology
in
fluorophore-drug
conjugates.

Abstract
A
dehydrogenative
fluorination
method
is
developed
to
access
multi‐substituted
trifluoromethylalkenes
starting
from
a
variety
of
gem
‐difluoroalkenes.
The
reaction
proceeds
with
electrophilic
source
NFSI
only
and
accommodates
wide
range
functional
groups,
thus
complementing
the
previously
reported
protocols.
Additionally,
visible‐light‐promoted
stereoinversion
revealed
enable
E
‐isomer
enriched
products.
