Developing efficient catalysts for seawater electrolysis hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is crucial producing green hydrogen. Carbonized wood (CW), a porous carbon monolith, promising self-supporting electrocatalytic electrode owing to its environmentally friendly, sustainable, and hierarchically properties. However, the impact of different tree species on performance remains unclear. In this study, various types CWs, including carbonized poplar (PoCW), balsa (BaCW), fir (FiCW), pine (PiCW), have been selected investigate their in evolution. Among these, PoCW exhibits superior HER compared other attributed electrochemically active surface area, resistance, content oxygen-containing functional groups. demonstrates low overpotential 284 mV 356 at 10 mA cm–2 alkaline freshwater seawater, respectively. Moreover, shows long-term durability 100 h both seawater. This work guides selection wood-based monoliths that metal-free, CW-based electrodes hold great potential
