Covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs), an emerging subclass of contemporary high-performance nanoporous materials, have demonstrated their plausible potential in diverse real-world applications, for instance, adsorption, separation, catalysis, energy storage, photonics, and electronics. Similar to other supermolecular structures such as metal-organic (MOF) covalent organic (COFs), CTFs feature pre-designability post-synthetic chemical tunability. Thus, they deliver distinct physicochemical, optical, electrical, structural characteristics. Such features also endow with unique properties, including optional building blocks synthetic methods, increased specific surface area, considerable pore volume, accessible micro-and/or mesopores structures, superior chemical/thermal stability, heteroatom effect. Meanwhile, further improve the performance practice thus expand possible several comprising various functionalities been successfully synthesized. can be modified via either bottom-up (i.e., pre-synthetic) or functionalization strategies used environmental remediation implementations. In present review, current developments environment-related applications functionalized CTFs, CO2 capture, removal heavy metal species from aqueous solutions, radioiodine uptake, photocatalytic degradation pollutants, are discussed detail. Functionalized shown unprecedented adsorption capacity selectivity towards pollutants. It has revealed that main interaction mechanisms between adsorbate CTFs' surfaces electrostatic, acid-base, charge transfer, ion exchange, chelation, coordination, hydrogen-bonding, hydrophobic effect, π−π stacking mechanisms. more research is required bridge gap lab-scale remediation.
