Current challenges in sustainable development and environmental protection are driving scientists engineers to innovate mitigate the negative impact of human activities on ecosystems. Strict legal requirements European Union (EU) underscore need for changes materials used fertilizers because all components must be biodegradable by July 2024. The EU has published new guidelines based ISO 17556, which assesses degradability soil. One main directions meet these expectations is use enhanced-efficiency made from materials. This review critically analyses recent advances using natural raw as mineral fertilizer coatings, addressing a significant gap evaluation their commercial viability. properties cellulose lignin coating modifications discussed, including acetate, ethylcellulose, acetate butyrate, phenolated oxypropylated lignin. These findings provide practical guidance manufacturers seeking comply with upcoming regulations while maintaining product efficacy.
