Over the past few decades, disposal of various industrial pollutants such as organic dyes, heavy metal ions, pesticides, and phenolic compounds has led to deterioration quality freshwater; even with 70% water coverage over earth, there is meager access freshwater sources. Against drawbacks conventional purification methods sludge production generation toxic byproducts, adsorption process regarded an efficient economical strategy for treatment wastewater. Among available adsorbents, cyclodextrin-based nanosponges have evolved prominent adsorbents treating wastewater are considered a cost-effective option minimal energy time requirements. Owing their porous nature, cone-like structure, cross-linked three-dimensional network, special architecture hydrophilic hydrophobic moieties wherein core can form inclusion complexes via host–guest interactions while edges interact through hydrogen-bonding electrostatic interactions, they effective removal variety metals, phenols, pesticides. Additionally, number active sites in these could be enhanced by hybridizing other or functionalization magnetic nanoparticles. This review deliberates underlines limitations using adsorption.
