Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are used in consumer products manufacturing. Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorodecanoic (PFDA), perfluoroundecanoic (PFUnDA) long-chain PFAS composed of 9, 10, 11 carbons, respectively, which exert sublethal toxicity to aquatic species. Here, we review the data regarding environmental fate ecotoxicology these understudied fish. The objectives this study were (1) compile literature compare physiological or molecular signaling pathways disrupted by PFNA, PFDA, PFUnDA; (2) uncover potential biomarkers longer-chain using gene ontology computational approaches shed light on their mechanism action. Studies show that have a range effects fish, including developmental issues, changes expression, behavioral modifications. Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs), including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs), have raised global concerns due to their persistence, bioaccumulation potential, toxicity. This study presents a comprehensive investigation the occurrence, spatiotemporal distribution, potential sources, ecological human health risks associated with 18 PFASs 9 OPFRs in surface waters upper Yangtze River, China. The water samples were collected from main stream five major tributaries (Min, Jinsha, Tuo, Jialing, Wu Rivers) 2022 2023. total concentration ranged 16.07 927.19 ng/L, 17.36 190.42 respectively, consistently higher observed compared tributaries. Ultra-short-chain (e.g., TFMS) halogenated TCPP) predominant compounds, likely originating industrial discharges, wastewater effluents, other anthropogenic sources. Ecological risk assessments indicated low-to-moderate at most sampling sites, near discharge points. Human evaluations suggested negligible non-carcinogenic but identified carcinogenic OPFR exposure for adults specific locations, particularly Leshan city. highlights importance understanding fate impacts provides valuable insights developing targeted pollution control strategies management measures.

The vertical distribution and potential variability of Per- Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the water column lacustrine systems is important to know for sampling monitoring purposes, but could also relate details their fate, transport, distribution. In this study, a eutrophic freshwater lake (Lake Monona, Madison, WI, USA) was sampled vertically PFAS during summer stratification at several depths (surface microlayer 1 m from bottom) then monitored four dates three following year assess seasonality. concentration did not exhibit or large column. However, seasonal variation detected, as well an increase related drought conditions. This study suggests that surface grab sample may be sufficient representative basic PFAS. But single provide complete understanding lake, multiple samples should taken capture understand events.

ABSTRACT Surface soil (0–15 cm below grade) was collected from 100 locations at 25 properties across Massachusetts and analyzed for 36 per‐ polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) perfluorooctanoic (PFOA) were detected in every sample the highest concentrations relative to other PFAS. Perfluorinated carboxylic acids more common than perfluoroalkyl acids, PFAS significantly correlated with organic carbon content. No fluorotelomers, perfluoroalkane sulfonamide or sulfonyl substances, ether chloropolyfluoroalkyl detected. Comparison results northern New England (Maine, Vermont, Hampshire) exhibit a consistent pattern. PFOS PFOA are most commonly found concentrations. The predominant present their as function of chain length different regional industrial sources like deposition estimates resulting global emissions, including outside North America, atmospheric precursor degradation. Anthropogenic background may exceed cleanup standards based on leaching groundwater, investigation remediation liabilities property owners even though no onsite release has occurred. Given ubiquity today, anthropogenic should be considered during promulgation standards.
