Abstract Fluorescent molecular probes have gained significant attention due to their exceptional attributes, such as enhanced specificity, sensitivity, and reversibility. This review explores how organic probe molecules' fluorescence properties change when metal ions like Hg 2+ bind the receptors. The alteration in results from distinct photophysical mechanisms photoinduced electron transfer, proton energy charge excimer formation, aggregation‐induced emission, C═N isomerization etc. Besides, induce chemical reactions resulting changes structural conformation properties. As a result, this effect specifically affects signal of molecules, which is beneficial for advancing sensor technology developed detect contamination. Focusing on environmental pollution biological sample analysis, study highlights applying fluorescent techniques using chromophores heavy ions, particularly ions. A pyrene-based excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) active probe PMHMP was synthesized, characterized, and employed for the ppb-level, dual-mode, high-fidelity detection of Cu2+ (LOD: 7.8 ppb) Zn2+ ions 4.2 in acetonitrile medium. The colorless solution turned yellow upon addition Cu2+, suggesting its ratiometric, naked-eye sensing. On contrary, displayed concentration-dependent fluorescence rise till a 0.5 mole fraction subsequent quenching. Mechanistic investigations indicated formation 1:2 exciplex (Zn2+:PMHMP) at lower concentration Zn2+, which eventually into more stable 1:1 complex with an additional amount ions. However, both cases, it observed that hydroxyl group nitrogen atom azomethine unit were involved metal ion coordination, altered ESIPT emission. Furthermore, green-fluorescent 2:1 PMHMP-Zn2+ developed additionally fluorimetric analysis H2PO4- ion, owing to higher binding affinity PMHMP, could replace from preformed complex. other hand, formed tertiary adduct Zn2+-complex, leading distinguishable optical signal. extensive organized density functional theory calculations performed explore behavior geometrical electronic properties complexes.

This study reports the successful synthesis of three new benzidine-based chemosensors (CRBD-1, CRBD-2, and CRBD-3). Among these, CRBD-1 CRBD-2 exhibited exceptional selectivity ultrafast response toward Cu2+ Hg2+ ions, evident by a distinct naked-eye color change. The sensors demonstrated remarkable stability across broad pH range achieved low detection limits in ppm range. displayed high binding constant for (2.42 × 108) (1.45 107). Notably, limit (LOD) (0.953 ppm) (0.003 was significantly lower than established safety thresholds set WHO ESEPA. mechanism sensing, involving intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), thoroughly validated using UV–vis spectroscopy, 1H NMR, cyclic voltammetry, DFT, Job's plot analysis. Abstract A simple fluorescent probe, ( E )‐ N ‐(3‐methoxy‐4‐methylphenyl)‐1‐(quinolin‐2‐yl)methanimine L ), was synthesized via Schiff base condensation reaction between quinoline‐2‐carboxaldehyde and 3‐methoxy‐4‐methylaniline. can be used as a ′turn‐on′ probe for the selective sensitive detection of Zn 2+ ions in CH 3 OH/HEPES medium. The limit 1.04×10 −7 M. Job plot analysis shows that binding stoichiometry is 1 : 1, further verified by single crystal structure. fluorescence‐enhanced response towards may related to chelation‐enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) supported theoretical calculations.
