Comprehensive Characterization of Aroma Compounds in Four Different Varieties of Cigar Tobacco Leaves from China Using HS-SPME-GC × GC-TOF-MS Combined with Flavor Profiling

In
order
to
conduct
in-depth
research
on
the
stylistic
characteristics
of
different
varieties
cigar
tobacco
leaves
(CTLs),
we
have
carried
out
following
work:
first,
Soxhlet
extraction
method
was
utilized
for
pretreatment
4
CTLs
currently
available
in
China.
Then,
two-dimensional
(2D)
gas
chromatography-time-of-flight
mass
spectrometry
(GC
×
GC-TOF-MS)
technology
applied
nontargeted
flavoromics
analysis
CTLs.
A
total
2117
volatile
compounds
were
identified
extracts
varieties,
encompassing
alcohols,
aldehydes,
ketones,
carboxylic
acids,
and
their
derivatives,
esters,
hydrocarbons,
alkenes,
heterocyclic
compounds,
aromatics.
Results
from
multivariate
statistical
analyses
(principal
component
(PCA)
orthogonal
partial
least-squares
discriminant
(OPLS-DA))
revealed
significant
differences
compound
profiles
among
CTL
varieties.
Based
relative
odor
activity
value
(ROAV)
analysis,
key
flavor
determined
each
variety,
contributing
unique
aroma
cigars.
Overall,
shared
similar
profiles,
characterized
by
sweetness,
fruitiness,
greenness,
nuttiness,
floral
notes,
with
BX1
DX2
particularly
standing
sweetness
additionally
prominent
fruitiness.
HY101,
however,
relatively
lacking
these
attributes
compared
other

Abstract
Aging
conditions,
including
time,
temperature,
humidity,
and
flipping
frequency,
play
an
important
role
in
the
flavor
development
of
cigars.
In
this
study,
headspace–gas
chromatography–ion
mobility
spectrometry
(HS–GC–IMS)
method
was
used
to
analyze
changes
volatile
compounds
(VFCs)
cigars
under
different
aging
conditions.
A
total
82
VFCs
were
identified
from

to
comprehend
the
dissimilarities
in
tobacco
quality
between
Canada
and
Yunnan,
a
comparison
of
aroma
components
was
conducted
using
GC-MS
HPLC
analysis,
coupled

orthogonal

analysis
(OPLS-DA).

amino

Comparatively,
demonstrated
elevated
levels
sesquiterpenes,
while
esters
diterpenes
relatively
lower.
These
distinctions
potentially
contribute
varied
sensory
profiles
tobacco.

Introduction
Fermentation
is
a
crucial
process
in
cigar
manufacturing.
Exogenous
addition
of
functional
microorganisms
for
fortified
fermentation
can
further
improve
tobacco
leaves
quality.
Methods
In
this
study,
five
Cyberlindnera
fabianii
strains
were
isolated
from
leaves.
Their
effects
assessed
by
analyzing
flavor
components
and
major
chemical
compositions.
Results
Among
these
isolates,
four
C.
demonstrated
the
ability
to
enhance
overall
profile,
particularly
increasing
esters
chlorophyll
degradation
products.
Additionally,
several
strains,
F3
F4,
also
reduced
total
alkaloid
nitrogen
content.

F4
exhibited
most
significant
improvements.
Sensory
evaluation
revealed
that

mellowness,
richness
sweetness
while
reducing
irritation
off-flavors
