The specific interaction of lectins with carbohydrates and glycoconjugates grants these proteins a distinct ability to decode the glycocode. Essential for various biological processes in all organisms, this carbohydrate-binding activity also establishes as valuable tools fields such glycomics, medicine, biotechnology. Considering that discovery novel unique binding profiles is particularly relevant, study investigated specificity two extracted from Bauhinia seeds toward simple sugars, N-glycans O-glycans. combination agglutination-inhibition assays glycan arrays revealed subtle differences galactosides glycans containing motifs, LewisX, LacdiNAc, fucosylated LacdiNAc. Despite slight patterns, both showed similar results toxicity using Artemia salina nauplii cytotoxicity on cancer cell lines, neither lectin exhibiting significant toxicity.
