Recently, Air Quality Monitoring (AQM) has gained significant R&D attention from academia and industries, leading to advanced sensor-enabled IoT solutions. Literature highlights the use of nanomaterials in sensor design, emphasising miniaturisation, enhanced calibration, low voltage, room-temperature operation. Significant efforts are aimed at improving sensitivity, selectivity, stability, while addressing challenges like high power consumption drift. The integration sensors with technology is driving development accurate, scalable, real-time AQM systems. This paper provides technical insights into recent advancements, focusing on air pollutants, technologies, frameworks, performance evaluation, future research directions. It presents a detailed analysis quality composition potential pollutants. Relevant examined terms materials methodologies for pollutant monitoring. A critical review frameworks conducted, highlighting their strengths weaknesses. As contribution, an experimental evaluation three commercially available systems UK discussed, comparative results. Lastly, directions also explored focus design framework development.
