Magnesium stearate (MgSt), a common flow additive and anticaking agent, was applied to corn stover feedstocks with three particle sizes. The material handling properties of dry, 15%, 30% moisture content were measured Freeman FT-4 powder rheometer mass hopper calculations. While hydrated biomass typically exhibits poor flowability, introducing MgSt led significant increase in flowability for dry 15% feedstocks, less impact at content. Inverse gas chromatography showed decrease, up 40%, the surface energy MgSt-coated stover. may not be ideal biofuel or chemical production, this study highlights potential additives reduce adhesive cohesive forces, improving feedstock handling.

To investigate the combined effects of dry–wet cycling and cyclic loading on macro- micro-scale damage mechanisms siltstones, a series uniaxial fatigue tests are conducted. The stress–strain response specimens subjected to initially exhibits sparse distribution hysteresis loops, which subsequently changes denser clustering before reverting more dispersed pattern, that is, ‘sparse-dense-sparse’ mode. Macroscopic failure patterns primarily governed by number cycling, with frequency exerting comparatively minor influence. When reaches 45, transition in pattern from tensile- shear-dominated is observed. Microscopic analyses using scanning electron microscopy reveal deterioration induced results reaction feldspar minerals water, leading formation water-soluble clay minerals, process referred as ‘hydrolysis–dissolution effect’. propagation during fragmentation mineral particles under compressive stress, increases interparticle friction. Abstract Biofuels from biomass and non-recyclable municipal solid waste (N-MSW) can potentially replace aviation fossil fuels. However, the cost-effectiveness is impeded by feedstock handling issues, such as unstable flow or jamming in hoppers feeders. This issue be solved mainly based on enhanced understanding of rheology N-MSW particles, which remains poorly understood. Leveraging discrete continuum-based granular models, this study, we conduct industry-scale hopper testing milled woody biomass, paper, cardboard, foam, thin film, plastic investigate potential using fluid models to characterize behavior. The tests demonstrate different behaviors tested materials, including fast flow, stable-to-unstable varying rates. Numerical simulation utilizing Gudehus-Bauer hypoplastic model demonstrates good agreement with experimental data for rigid those non-Newtonian exhibit promising low computational cost. new rheological are required capture rate flows highly compressible particles paper foam. study advances knowledge particulate materials biofuel production.

The extrusion processing of food powder relies heavily on its moisture content to aid in flow and proper cooking, shaping, and/or puffing. This study focused the impact dynamic shear properties coarse powders (corn meal, wheat farina, granulated sugar). explored were specific basic flowability energy (SBFE), energy, stability index, rate index. angle internal friction, unconfined yield strength, major principal stress, wall friction angle, factor (FF), compressibility. Corn meal exhibited an increase SBFE as increased (6.70 mJ/g at 13.13% 9.14 19.61%) but no change FF (4.94 5.11); farina also showed requirement (5.81 13.73% 9.47 19.57%) a marked decrease ratings (18.47 6.1); sugar requirements (51.73 0.06% 13.58 0.78% content) (8.53 3.47). Overall, upon addition moisture, corn became cohesive yet free-flowing; less compressible more cohesive; free-flowing.
