Poly(ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) (PEF) is a type of biobased polyester with high gas barrier, which has the potential to replace polyethylene terephthalate (PET). In view poor toughness PEF, an innovative attempt was made install small amount 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid (TDCA) into PEF backbone and synthesize poly(ethylene furandicarboxylate-co-thiophenedicarboxylate) (PEFS-n) copolyester. The obtained PEFS-n demonstrates thermal stability glass transition temperature (Tg) comparable that PEF. Additionally, tensile properties exhibit appreciable enhancements. impact strength exhibited markedly higher value than particularly in case PEFS-5, displays 138% increase strength. Concurrently, exhibits enhanced barrier characteristics (oxygen, carbon dioxide, water) PET, addition outstanding solvent resistance transparency. After 4 h hydrolysis alkaline solutions at 80 °C, subsequently simply washing filtering, more 90% FDCA monomer could be recovered. This work provides direction for heat-resistant green packaging, as sustainable alternatives PET.

This work provides an in-depth molecular structure design strategy for developing high-barrier polymer packaging films. A series of high-performance PPDThF copolyesters were prepared by utilizing the unique crystallization ability poly(propylene 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate) (PPThF), as well a long-chain dicarboxylic acid, namely dodecanedioic acid (DA). The incorporation polyethylene-like polyester from DA into main chain polymers has been found to be random copolymerization, leading limited crystallizable sequence lengths. effects acids on thermal transition, aggregation structure, gas barrier properties, and optical properties copolyester investigated. results demonstrate that PPDThF-10 combines benefits conventional thermoplastics, like high strength (>30 MPa) modulus (>0.6 GPa), with mechanical physical characteristics chemically cross-linked rubber, including extensibility (ε = 730%) toughness (134 MJ/m–3). obtained so far thiophene-based can used in food applications.
