There is a lack of information on the level microplastic (MP) contamination in leachate, which contains high levels pollutants and has considerable complexity to treat, originating from landfills. In this review, sources, abundance, characteristics (polymer type, size, shape) MPs landfill leachates were presented. Subsequently, limited number studies released into environment leachate uncontrolled landfills summarised. next section, possible remediation approaches (physical treatment processes, chemical biological constructed wetlands) for discussed. Finally, research gaps recommendations future As result it was determined that there an urgent need standardized MP analysis method. Furthermore, necessity increased removal with efficiency low cost highlighted. It emphasized reducing amount plastic waste can be achieved by taking implementing measures through public policies.

Microplastics (MP) contamination in food and water poses significant health risks. While microbes that form biofilm show potential for removing MP from the environment, no methods currently exist to eliminate these non-degradable human body. In this study, we propose using probiotics adsorb remove ingested within gut. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation of 784 bacterial strains assess their ability 0.1 μm polystyrene particles high-throughput screening method. Among tested strains, Lacticaseibacillus paracasei DT66 Lactiplantibacillus plantarum DT88 exhibited optimal adsorption vitro were effective across various types. an animal model, mice treated with demonstrated 34% increase PS excretion rates 67% reduction residual (PS) intestine. Additionally, administration mitigated PS-induced intestinal inflammation. Together, our findings demonstrate novel probiotic strategy addressing MP-associated risks, emphasizing strain-specific gut environment.
