Chirality-Dependent Structural Transformation in Chiral 2D Perovskites under High Pressure DOI

Chiral perovskites have attracted considerable attention owing to their potential applications in spintronic- and polarization-based optoelectronic devices. However, the structural chirality/asymmetry transfer mechanism between chiral organic ammoniums achiral inorganic frameworks is still equivocal, especially under extreme conditions, as systematic differences been rarely explored. Herein, we successfully synthesized a pair of new enantiomeric perovskite (S/R-3PYEA)PbI4 (3PYEA2+ = C5NH5C2H4NH32+) an (rac-3PYEA)PbI4. Hydrostatic pressure was used, for first time, systematically investigate evolution optical behavior At approximately 7.0 GPa, exhibits chirality-dependent transformation with bandgap "red jump" dramatic piezochromism from translucent red opaque black. Upon further compression, previously unreported chirality-induced negative linear compressibility (NLC) achieved (S/R-3PYEA)PbI4. High-pressure characterizations first-principles calculations demonstrate that pressure-driven homodirectional tilting homochiral ammonium cations strengthens interactions S/R-3PYEA2+ Pb–I frameworks, inducing formation asymmetric hydrogen bonds N–H···I–Pb The enhanced H-bonding break symmetry trigger greater degree in-plane out-of-plane distortion [PbI6]4– octahedra, which are responsible phase transition NLC, respectively. Due to the pronounced anisotropic response circularly polarized light, chiral hybrid organic-inorganic metal halides have been regarded as promising candidates for application in nonlinear chiroptics, especially second-harmonic generation circular dichroism (SHG-CD) effect. However, designing novel lead-free with large anisotropy factors and high laser-induced damage thresholds (LDT) of SHG-CD remains challenging. Herein, we develop first germanium halide, (R/S-NEA)3 Ge2 I7 ⋅H2 O (R/S-NGI), systematically investigated its linear chiroptical properties. S-NGI R-NGI exhibit (gSHG-CD ) 0.45 0.48, respectively, along a LDT 38.46 GW/cm2 ; these were highest values among reported halides. Moreover, effective second-order optical coefficient could reach up 0.86 pm/V, which was 2.9 times higher than that commercial Y-cut quartz. Our findings facilitate new avenue toward halides, their implementation applications.

Conventional circularly polarized light (CPL) detectors necessitate several optical elements, posing difficulties in achieving miniature and integrated devices. Abstract Polar materials with spontaneous polarization ( P s ) have emerged as highly promising photocatalysts for efficient photocatalytic H 2 evolution owing to the ‐enhanced photogenerated carrier separation. However, traditional inorganic polar often suffer from limitations such wide band gaps and poor transport, which hinders their efficiency. Here, we rationally synthesized a series of isostructural two‐dimensional (2D) aromatic Dion–Jacobson (DJ) perovskites, namely (2‐(2‐Aminoethyl)pyridinium)PbI 4 (2‐APDPI), (3‐(2‐Aminoethyl)pyridinium)PbI (3‐APDPI), (4‐(2‐Aminoethyl)pyridinium)PbI (4‐APDPI), where 2‐APDPI 4‐APDPI crystalize in space groups piezoelectric constants d 33 approximately 40 pm V −1 3‐APDPI adopts centrosymmetric structure. Strikingly, ‐facilitated separation carriers, exhibit 3.9‐ 2.8‐fold increase, respectively, compared 3‐APDPI. As pioneering study, this work provides an approach exploring new highlights potential promoting evolution.

Abstract Conventional circularly polarized light (CPL) detectors face a grand challenge with device integration and miniaturization because of the need for complex optical components. Chiral perovskites have recently emerged as interesting materials CPL that do not require additional elements but struggle to achieve high photocurrent dissymmetry factor ( g Iph ). Herein, simple promising strategy is reported high‐performance perovskite photodetectors (CP‐PPDs) exceptionally . The CP‐PPDs are fabricated using single crystals in combination free‐standing cholesteric liquid crystal polymer films (P‐CLC) empower trigger an optically selective response. By tuning photonic bandgap P‐CLC film, spectral response tunable over broad range wavelengths. devices show detectivities 6.8 × 10 13 5.1 Jones at 520 405 nm, respectively. Importantly, PDs exhibit factors up 1.95 which highest date CP‐PPDs. Furthermore, proof‐of‐concept, CP‐PPD arrays demonstrated use image sensing.

A ferroelectric/ferroelastic is a material whose spontaneous polarization/strain can be switched by applying an external electric field/mechanical stress. However, the optical control of remains relatively unexplored in crystalline materials, although photoirradiation stands out as nondestructive, noncontact, and remote-controlled stimulus beyond stress or field. Here, we present two new organic single-component homochiral photochromic multiferroics, (R)- (S)-N-3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylidene-1–4-bromophenylethylamine (SA-Ph-Br(R) SA-Ph-Br(S)), which show full phase transition 222F2 type at 336 K. Under photoirradiation, their quickly within seconds reversibly between phases with respective enol trans-keto forms triggered structural photoisomerizations. In addition, they possess superior acoustic impedance characteristic value ∼2.42 × 106 kg·s–1·m–2, lower than that polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF, (3.69–4.25) kg·s–1·m–2), better match human tissues. Chiral hybrid organic-inorganic metal halides (HOMHs) with intrinsic noncentrosymmetry have shown great promise for broad applications in chiroptoelectronics, spintronics, and ferroelectronics. However, the construction strategies chiral HOMHs often involve building blocks their frameworks, which greatly limit chemical diversity. Here, we take advantage of a induction approach successfully constructed series HOMHs, DMA4MX7 (DMA = dimethylammonium, M Sb or Bi, X Cl Br), based on achiral precursors. The resulting products demonstrate clear enantioenrichment, as confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis solid-state circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. enables superior nonlinear optical performances very high thermal stability laser resistance. successful employment such might facilitate libraries HOMH crystals from diverse precursors, particular those into it is not easy to introduce centers, would thus pave new way rational preparation application materials.

Circularly polarized light (CPL) detection has sparked overwhelming research interest for its widespread chiroptoelectronic and spintronic applications. Ferroelectric materials, especially emerging layered hybrid perovskite ferroelectrics, exhibiting striking bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) present significant possibilities CPL by a distinctive working concept. Herein, the first time, we demonstrate realization of robust angular anisotropy in new ferroelectric crystal (CPA)2FAPb2Br7 (1, CPA is chloropropylammonium, FA formamidinium), which crystallized an optically active achiral polar point group. Benefiting from notable spontaneous polarization (5.1 μC/cm2) excellent semiconducting characteristics, single crystals 1 exhibit remarkable BPVE under illumination, with high current on/off switching ratio (ca. 103). More intriguingly, driven carrier drift originating spin-dependent displays highly sensitive self-powered performance, showing factor up to 0.98, far more than those achieved material intrinsic chirality.
