Abstract Coordination cages have been widely reported to bind a variety of guests, which are useful for chemical separation. Although the use in solid state benefits recycling, flexibility, dynamicity, and metal-ligand bond reversibility solid-state poor, preventing efficient guest encapsulation. Here we report type coordination cage-integrated materials that can be swelled into gel water. The material is prepared through incorporation an anionic Fe II 4 L 6 cage as counterion cationic poly(ionic liquid) (MOC@PIL). immobilized within MOC@PILs found greatly affect swelling ability thus mechanical properties. Importantly, upon swelling, uptake water provides ideal microenvironment gels dynamically move flex leads excellent solution-level binding performances. This concept has enabled adsorbents removal pollutants from purification toluene cyclohexane. regenerated deswelling strategy along with recycling extracted guests.

Intricately interwoven topologies are continually being synthesized and ultimately equally versatile significant at the nanoscale level; however, reports concerning ravel structures, which highly entwined new topological species, extremely rare fraught with tremendous synthesis challenges. To solve problem, a tetrapodontic pyridine ligand L1 two types of olefinic bond units Cp*M-based building blocks (E1, M=Rh; E2, M=Ir) featuring large conjugated planes was prepared to perform self-assembly. Two unprecedented [5+10] icosanuclear molecular 4-ravels containing four crossings were obtained by parallel-displaced π⋅⋅⋅π interactions in single-step strategy. Remarkably, reversible structural transformations between 4-ravel corresponding metallocage could be realized concentration changes solvent- guest-induced effects. X-ray crystallographic data NMR spectroscopy provide full confirmation these phenomena.

In biological systems, many biomacromolecules (e.g., heme proteins) are capable of switching their states reversibly in response to external stimuli, endowing these natural architectures with a high level diversity and functionality. Although tremendous efforts have been made advance the complexity artificial supramolecules, it remains challenge construct metallo-supramolecular systems that can carry out reversible interconversion among multiple states. Here, pH-responsive tridentate ligand, 2,6-di(1H-imidazole-2-yl)pyridine (H2DAP), is incorporated into multitopic building block for precise construction giant hexagonal wreaths three metal ions, i.e., Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), through coordination-driven self-assembly. particular, Co-linked wreath enables situ four pH oxidant/reductant highly efficient conversion without losing structural integrity. During state cycles, physical properties assembled constructs finely tuned, including charge backbone, valency paramagnetic/diamagnetic features complexes. Such discrete structures charge-switchable backbone further facilitate layer-by-layer assembly metallo-supramolecules on substrate.

Developing a new strategy to improve the self-assembly efficiency of functional assemblies in confined space and construct hybrid materials is significant fascinating endeavor. Herein, we present highly efficient for achieving supramolecular well-defined metallacages microdroplets through continuous-flow microfluidic devices. The high versatility this approach are demonstrated by generation five representative different solvents containing water, DMF, acetonitrile, methanol few minutes with nearly quantitative yields, contrast yields obtained hour-scale reaction time batch reactor. A ring-opening catalytic was selected as model exploring catalysis microdroplets, whereby yield enhanced 2.22-fold compared that same This work illustrates promising systems.

Abstract Supramolecular chemistry has become an interdisciplinary discipline of chemistry, physics, and biology. As a huge subunit supramolecular compounds, the functional metal–organic systems with well‐defined cavities which are able to accommodate size‐suitable guests via benign host‐guest behavior, have been known as “metal–organic molecular containers” (MOMCs) attracted much attentions for their rich chemical properties wide potential applications in recognition, catalysis, bio‐medical other fields. In particular, MOMCs flexible backbones exhibit unique feature both aspect structural construction applications, due free rotation self‐adaptively specific groups skeletons. this paper, we review several selected examples coordination‐driven from aspects self‐assembly various applications. The strategies, especially different choice organic ligands during construction, leading quite diverse configurations compared rigid ligands, also discussed show perspective system construction.
