Herein,

Conjugation
between
three-dimensional

paper,
we
report
that
reducing
1,12-bis(BMes2)-p-carborane
(B2pCab)
with
one
electron
gives
a
radical
anion
centrosymmetric
semiquinoidal
structure.
This
shows
extensive
delocalization

boron
centers
over
p-carborane
bridge
due
overlap
of
carborane
lowest
unoccupied
molecular
orbital
(LUMO)
BMes2
LUMO.
Unlike
dianions
other
C2B10H12
carboranes,
which
rearrange
nido-form,
two-electron
reduction
B2pCab
leads
rearrangement
into
basket-shaped
intermediate.
