Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) pose a significant threat to the environment due their persistence, ability bioaccumulate, harmful effects. Methods quantify PFAS rapidly effectively are essential analyze track contamination, but measuring down ultralow regulatory levels is extremely challenging. Here, we describe development of low-cost sensor that can measure representative PFAS, perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), at parts per quadrillion (ppq) level within 5 min. The method combines PFOS bind silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) embedded fluorine-rich Ti3C2-based multilayered MXene, which provides large surface area accessible binding sites for direct impedimetric detection. Fundamentally, show MXene–AgNPs capable other long-chain compounds, though synergistic action AgNPs MXenes via electrostatic F–F interactions. This induced concentration-dependent changes in charge-transfer resistance, enabling rapid quantification with high sensitivity no response interferences. displayed linear range from 50 ppq 1.6 ppt (parts trillion) an impressively low limit detection 33 99 ppq, making this promising candidate screening content water samples, using simple inexpensive procedure.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of fluorinated pollutants found widely in numerous industrial consumer products. Their excellent heat, oil, water resistance slow degradation rate nature lead to their persistent environmental accumulation with potential adverse impacts on various organisms, including humans. Although the current EPA-approved PFAS detection method is elegant ultrasensitive, its broader application greatly limited due associated high costs, lengthy times, skilled personnel requirements. Hence, there strong demand for rapid, robust, low-cost, accessible methods expedite treatment contaminated media control exposure these emerging substances. Since publication our first sensing review 2021, new sensors have been developed reported. Consequently, this critical primarily focuses recent advancements platforms, encompassing optical-based, electrochemical-based, other novel principle-based systems, as well those that complement liquid chromatography coupled tandem mass spectrometry, gold standard detection. Abstract The ubiquitous presence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in aqueous environments has aroused societal concern. Nonetheless, effective sensing technologies for continuous monitoring PFAS within water distribution infrastructures currently do not exist. Herein, we describe a ratiometric approach to selectively detect perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) at concentrations μg ⋅ L −1 . Our method relies on the excitonic transport highly fluorinated poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene) amplify emission signal modulated by an embedded squaraine dye. electronic coupling between polymer dye occurs through overlap π‐orbitals is designed such that energy transfer dominated electron‐exchange (Dexter) mechanism. Exposure solutions perturbs orbital interactions backbone, thereby diminishing efficiency producing “polymer‐ON/dye‐OFF” response. These polymer/dye combinations were evaluated spin‐coated films nanoparticles able ca. 150 ppb 50 ppb, respectively. Both are affected type water, similar responses found milliQ well water.

Condensed films of functional luminophores dominated by the magnitude and dimensionality intermolecular interactions play important roles in sensing performance. However, controlling molecular assembly regulating photophysical properties remain challenging. In this study, a new luminophore, ortho-PBI-Au, was synthesized anchoring cyclometalated alkynyl-gold(III) unit at ortho-position perylene bisimide. An unprecedented T-type packing model driven weak Au-π interaction Au-H bonds observed, laying foundation for striking luminophore. Controlled ortho-PBI-Au air-water interface, realized using classical Langmuir-Schaeffer technique, afforded obtained luminescent with different structures. With an optimized film, sensitive, selective, rapid detection hazardous psychoactive substance, phenylethylamine (PEA), achieved. The limit, response time, recovery time were <4 ppb, <1 s, <5 respectively, surpassing performance PEA sensors known thus far. relationship between characters systematically examined grey relational analysis (GRA). present study suggests that designing novel aggregation definite adlayer structure is crucial strategy to enhance performance, which could be favorable film-based fluorescent sensors.

Abstract Triptycene, a rigid propeller-shaped molecule, was first synthesized in the early 1940s. More recently, many triptycene-containing polymers and molecular assemblies have been developed for wide range of applications, including guest recognition, material transport, separation, catalysis, as device components. The advantages triptycenes lie their ability to introduce variety functional groups on three-dimensional backbone, with changes substitution patterns well type substituents present having significant impact properties. In this review, we describe synthesis triptycene derivatives polymers, detailing selected examples polymers. We also focus construction triptycene-based two-dimensional where space-filling designs based skeletons are essential. Through thorough literature survey, future directions possibilities development materials discussed.
