Materials in which atoms are arranged a pyrochlore lattice have found renewed interest, as, at least theoretically, orbitals on that can form flat bands. However, real materials often do not behave according to theoretical models, is why there has been dearth of exhibiting band physics. Here, we examine the conditions under ideal "pyrochlore bands" exist and how those close Fermi level. We find simple model used literature does apply bands level materials. surprisingly, certain oxide compounds oxygen inside tetrahedra exhibit near-ideal near explain this observation by generalized tight-binding model, including orbitals. further classify all known based their crystal structure, chemical characteristics propose study future experiments.
