Abstract How the complex urban surface heterogeneity influences wind field structures induced by tropical cyclones remains poorly understood despite its importance for disaster mitigation. Here high‐resolution numerical simulations using Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with multi‐layer canopy (WRF/BEP, Building Effect Parameterization) are conducted to address this issue case of landfalling Typhoon Lekima (2019) over Yangtze River Delta (YRD) agglomeration. Results show that WRF/BEP reproduces typhoon track intensity reasonably well YRD agglomeration only slightly intensity. The BEP significantly improves overestimation probability distribution 10 m speed attributed explicit representation building drag effect. Urbanization enhances boundary layer vertical ascending descending motions, aligning cross‐sectional analyses along clusters. During primarily influenced period, attenuation rate daytime due urbanization at lowest level reaches 56.6%, which is about 15.5% larger than during pre‐typhoon or post‐typhoon periods, leading a more pronounced gradient in near‐surface speeds. This almost vanished heat island (UHI) effect stabilizes conditions. As result, mixing reduced consequently downward transport momentum weakened. study provides new insights into land processes on regulating under cyclone backgrounds.
