The study aimed to establish the relationship between affect regulation strategies, perceived stress, and resilience in health professions students. A total of 181 undergraduates participated survey. instruments used were Brief Resilience Scale, Responses Positive Affect Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, Cognitive Perceived Stress Scale. analyses indicated that reappraisal performed as a positive predictor resilience, whereas rumination dampening - negative predictors with effect being strongest. Dampening, rumination, self-blame predicted stress positively it negatively. fully mediated rumination-resilience relationship. show via self-blame, reappraisal, down-regulation dampening, but not its up-regulation, associated students' resilience. Tendencies reappraise negatives experiences boosts self-blaming, ruminating suppressing ones make students vulnerable appraisals experience latter presenting strongest risk factor for their adaptability. Implications implementing emotion skills psycho-education enhance are discussed.

Heightened reactivity to ambiguous emotional stimuli, such as surprized faces, is a transdiagnostic psychopathology risk factor. Women show elevated amygdala activation stimuli relative men, which may underlie their significantly higher for mood disorders. Moreover, there are sex/gender differences in the effects of stress on both emotion processing and regulation, with greater impact negative emotionality females. We predicted that chronic would be associated stronger these amplified girls/women. tested interactions gender/sex activity sample 297 healthy participants (59% girls/women, age range 6-75 years) who provided saliva viewed face while undergoing functional neuroimaging. Saliva samples were assayed two markers stress: Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) expression diversity Lactobacilli species. Among was images than lower exposure, although this effect not statistically significant. Counter predictions, reverse found among boys/men (i.e., exposure activation). Results similar across left right amygdalae, measures. Although our findings preliminary should replicated, they align gender valence bias, broadly support hypothesis neural ambiguity, particularly areas brain sensitive regulation. Possibly, does universally increase negativity, but instead amplifies default biases-which boys/men, result less reactivity.

Individuals exhibit a systematic valence bias-a specific form of interpretation bias-in response to emotional ambiguity. Accumulating evidence suggests most people initially respond ambiguity negatively and differ only in subsequent responses. We hypothesized that trait-level cognitive reappraisal-an emotion regulation strategy involving the reinterpretation affective meaning stimuli-might explain individual differences bias. To answer this question, we conducted random-effects meta-analysis 14 effect sizes from 13 prior studies (

Stimuli such as surprised faces are ambiguous in that they associated with both positive and negative outcomes. Interestingly, people differ reliably whether evaluate these other stimuli or negative, we have argued a evaluation relies part on biasing of the appraisal processes via reappraisal. To further test this idea, conducted two studies to increasing cognitive accessibility reappraisal through brief emotion regulation task would lead an increase evaluations ambiguity. Supporting prediction, demonstrated cuing reappraisal, but not three forms (Study 1a-d; n = 120), increased faces. In sign robustness, also found effect generalised from scenes 2; 34). Collectively, findings suggest may play key role determining responses stimuli. We discuss context affective flexibility, valence bias (i.e. tendency ambiguity more positively negatively) represents novel approach measuring implicit regulation.

Abstract Exacerbated negativity bias, including in responses to ambiguity, represents a common phenotype of internalizing disorders. Individuals differ their propensity toward positive or negative appraisals ambiguity. This variability constitutes one’s valence stable construct linked mental health. Evidence suggests an initial response ambiguity that updates via regulatory processes support more bias. Previous work implicates the amygdala and prefrontal cortex, regions cingulo-opercular system, this process. Nonetheless, neurodevelopmental origins bias remain unclear. The current study tests whether intrinsic brain organization predicts among 119 children adolescents (6 17 years). Using whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity, machine-learning model predicted (r = 0.20, P 0.03), as did restricted system features 0.19, 0.04). Disrupting connectivity revealed additional intra-system (e.g. fronto-parietal) inter-system cingulo-opercular) important for prediction. results highlight top–down control systems bottom–up perceptual influence development. Thus, informs directs future aimed at explicating related symptomology.
