Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the leading cause of acute viral hepatitis globally. HEV infections can progress to chronic disease in immunocompromised individuals and may also extrahepatic complications. By contrast other viruses, exhibits a broad tissue tropism, certain genotypes have ability infect multiple species. The initial steps surface attachment host cell entry are critical infection cycle serve as key determinants establish an infection. This review summarizes current understanding entry, focusing on molecular factors, such receptors, discusses differences between quasi-enveloped non-enveloped HEV. We further cover recent developments assay systems study highlight experimental strategies identify novel components required for entry. Advancing our these areas could help guide development targeted antiviral block early stages
