Abstract Objective . Complex spatiotemporal neural activity encodes rich information related to behavior and cognition. Conventional research has focused on acquired using one of many different measurement modalities, each which provides useful but incomplete assessment the code. Multi-modal techniques can overcome tradeoffs in spatial temporal resolution a single modality reveal deeper more comprehensive understanding system-level mechanisms. Uncovering multi-scale dynamics is essential for mechanistic brain function harnessing neuroscientific insights develop effective clinical treatment. Approach We discuss conventional methodologies used characterizing at scales review contemporary examples how these approaches have been combined. Then we present our case integrating across multiple benefit from combined strengths approach elucidate holistic processes. Main results examine various combinations analytical that be integrate or illuminate scales, as well technologies enable such exciting studies. conclude with challenges facing future studies, discussion power potential approaches. Significance This roadmap will lead readers toward broad range decoding their benefits over single-modality analyses. Review article highlights importance analyses systematically interrogating complex mechanisms underlying cognition behavior.

Creative thinking is among the most sought-after life and work skills in 21st century. The demand for creativity, however, exceeds degree to which it available developed. current project aimed test effectiveness of a one-year creativity training program higher education. students following was measured before, halfway, after training. In addition within-subjects comparison across time, performance compared matched control group. At each measurement points, different versions seven well-validated tasks (capturing divergent convergent creative skills) were employed. increased students’ ideation and, more importantly their cognitive flexibility. However, no difference originality observed. Finally, an increase observed one tasks, Remote Associate Test. Implications educational settings directions future research are discussed.

Increasing attention has been given to understanding resilience brain diseases, often described as or cognitive reserve. Among the protective factors for development of resilience, physical activity/exercise considered play an important role. Exercise is known induce many positive effects on brain. As such, exercise represents tool influence neurodevelopment and shape adult react life's challenges. beneficial effects, intervention associated with improvement stress in humans animal models. Thus, a growing number studies have demonstrated that not only recovers minimizes deficits by inducing better neuroplasticity reserve but also counteracts pathology. This evidenced before disease onset after it established. In this review, we aimed present encouraging data from current clinical pre-clinical neuroscience research discuss possible biological mechanisms underlying resilience. We consider implication aging some neurological diseases. Overall, literature indicates brain/cognitive built up regular several stages life, prepares be more resilient impairment consequently

Background: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a neuropsychiatric affective that can develop after traumatic life-events. Exposure-based therapy currently one of the most effective treatments for PTSD. However, exposure to stimuli so aversive significant number patients drop-out during course treatment. Among various attempts novel therapies bypass such aversiveness, neurofeedback appears promising. With neurofeedback, unconsciously self-regulate brain activity via real-time monitoring and feedback EEG or fMRI signals. conventional methods, however, it difficult induce neural representation related specific trauma because based on signals averaged within areas. To overcome this difficulty, approaches as Decoded Neurofeedback (DecNef) might prove helpful. Instead average BOLD signals, DecNef allows implicitly regulate multivariate voxel patterns with feared stimuli. Biocybernetic loops encompass users' state detection and system adaptation based on physiological signals. Current adaptive systems limit the to task features such as difficulty or multitasking demands. However, virtual reality allows manipulation of task-irrelevant elements in environment. We present a physiologically that adjusts environment arousal, i.e., electrodermal activity. conducted user study with our social verify improved performance. Here, participants completed an n-back task, we adapted visual complexity by changing number non-player characters. Our results show can control comfort, performance, workload adapting arousal. Thus, improves performance perceived workload. Finally, embed findings computing discuss applications various scenarios.
