The genus Prevotella comprises 55 species with validly published, and correct, names (at June 2021) that are phenotypically, ecologically functionally diverse. This study used a range of comparative genome approaches (marker gene-based phylogeny, core average amino acid identity, percentage conserved proteins clade-specific marker genes) to identify large differences between the 53 for which genomes available, as well two effectively published yet not named four novel species. These were consistent various analysis methods justify separation into multiple genera. While distribution across 19 ecosystem types was unique each inconsistent within clades, functional repertoire based on presence/absence both PFAMs CAZy families revealed distinct clustering proposed Based integration all results, we propose reclassification previously assigned seven genera, including genera Segatella, Hoylesella, Leyella Palleniella proposed. In addition Prevotella, this work describes species, Hallella faecis, Xylanibacter rodentium, muris, intestinalis.

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is highly effective against recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection and considered a promising treatment for other microbiome-related disorders, but comprehensive understanding of microbial engraftment dynamics lacking, which prevents informed applications this therapeutic approach. Here, we performed an integrated shotgun metagenomic systematic meta-analysis new publicly available stool microbiomes collected from 226 triads donors, pre-FMT recipients post-FMT across eight different disease types. By leveraging improved strain-profiling to infer strain sharing, found that with higher donor were more likely experience clinical success after FMT (P = 0.017) when evaluated studies. Considering all cohorts, increased was noted in individuals receiving multiple routes (for example, both via capsules colonoscopy during the same treatment) as well antibiotic-treated infectious diseases compared antibiotic-naïve patients noncommunicable diseases. Bacteroidetes Actinobacteria species (including Bifidobacteria) displayed than Firmicutes except six under-characterized species. Cross-dataset machine learning predicted presence or absence recipient at 0.77 average AUROC leave-one-dataset-out evaluation, highlighted relevance abundance, prevalence taxonomy presence. exploring microbiome their association variables, our study uncovered species-specific patterns presented models able predict donors might optimize specific characteristics disease-targeted protocols.

Abstract Introduction Recent advances have highlighted the relationships between gut dysbiosis and Parkinson's disease (PD). Microbiota transplantation from PD patients to mice can induce increased alpha‐synuclein‐mediated motor deficits. Human studies identified differences in microbiota of compared healthy controls. We undertook a systematic review evaluate available evidence for involvement bacteria etiology PD. Methods The PubMed databank, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Wanfang Data were searched inception until June 2021 identify human case–control that investigated quantified feces. evaluated resulting focusing on bacterial taxa different Results Twenty‐six found which 53 microbial families 98 genera exhibited with by more than two as Bifidobacterium , Alistipes Christensenella Enterococcus Oscillospira Bilophila Desulfovibrio Escherichia/Shigella Akkermansia while Prevotella Blautia Faecalibacterium Fusicatenibacter Haemophilus had three or reports being lower patients. More one report demonstrated Bacteroides Odoribacter Parabacteroides Butyricicoccus Butyrivibrio Clostridium Coprococcus Lachnospira Lactobacillus Megasphaera Phascolarctobacterium Roseburia Ruminococcus Streptococcus Klebsiella altered both directions. Conclusion Our shows microbiome may involve alterations short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs)‐producing an increase putative pathobionts. SCFAs‐producing vary above below “optimal range,” causing imbalances. Considering are beneficial health, be associated medications, especially COMT inhibitors, high level aging.

Ruminants are foregut fermenters that have the remarkable ability of converting plant polymers indigestible to humans into assimilable comestibles like meat and milk, which cornerstones human nutrition. establish a symbiotic relationship with their microbiome, latter is workhorse carbohydrate fermentation. On other hand, during fermentation, synthesis propionate sequesters H, thus reducing its availability for ultimate production methane (CH4) by methanogenic archaea. Biochemically, simplest alkane represents downturn in energetic efficiency ruminants; environmentally, it constitutes potent greenhouse gas negatively affects climate change. Oral Prevotella are known as anaerobic commensals on oral mucosae and in dental plaques from early life onwards, including pigmented P. melaninogenica, nigrescens, pallens non-pigmented species. Many species contribute to inflammatory processes, being frequent findings dysbiotic biofilms of periodontal diseases (P. intermedia, nigrescens), cariotic lesions denticola, Alloprevotella (formerly Prevotella) tannerae), endodontic infections baroniae, oris, multisaccharivorax), other clinically relevant conditions. Over the years, several novel have been recovered cavity without knowledge their clinical relevance. Within this wide genus, virulence properties characteristics like biofilm formation seemingly vary a species- strain-dependent manner, shown for intermedia group organisms aurantiaca, pallens). identified various non-oral chronic pathological Here, we updated genus role residents infectious agents cavity, well detection infections, but also gathered information potential link cancers head neck, systemic disorders.

Objectives Prevotella copri is considered to be a contributing factor in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, some non-Westernised countries, healthy individuals also harbour an abundance of P. the intestine. This study investigated pathogenicity RA patient-derived ( ) compared with control-derived HC ). Methods We obtained 13 P . strains from faeces patients and controls. Following whole genome sequencing, sequences were compared. To analyse arthritis-inducing ability , we examined two models (1) collagen-induced model harbouring under specific-pathogen-free conditions (2) SKG mouse -monocolonised conditions. Finally, evaluate activate innate immune cells, performed vitro stimulation bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) by Results Comparative genomic analysis revealed no apparent differences core gene contents between but pangenome high plasticity identified -specific region as conjugative transposon. In both models, -induced more severe than BMDC experiments upregulation IL-17 Th17-related cytokines (IL-6, IL-23) Conclusion Our findings reveal genetic diversity signatures associated strong contributes towards elucidation complex pathogenesis RA.

Fermented foods (FFs) are part of the cultural heritage several populations, and their production dates back 8000 years. Over last ~150 years, microbial consortia many most widespread FFs have been characterised, leading in some instances to standardisation production. Nevertheless, limited knowledge exists about communities local traditional possible effects on human health. Recent findings suggest they might be a valuable source novel probiotic strains, enriched nutrients highly sustainable for environment. Despite increasing number observational studies randomised controlled trials, it still remains unclear whether how regular FF consumption is linked with health outcomes enrichment gut microbiome health-associated species. This review aims sum up associated microbiomes, outlining role fermentation respect boosting nutritional profiles attempting establish link between health-beneficial outcomes.
