The microbiome of water springs is gaining increasing interest, especially in intended for human consumption. However, the knowledge about large-scale patterns still incomplete. presence bacteria sources used consumption a major concern health authorities; nonetheless, standard microbiological quality checks are focused only on pathogenic species and total microbial load. Using 16S rRNA high throughput sequencing, we characterized from 38 Trentino (Northern Italy) 2 consecutive years order to gain precious insights composition these unexplored yet hardly exploited environments. studies were integrated with measurements physico-chemical parameters performed by Provincial Office Environmental Monitoring highlight some dynamics influencing communities waters. We found that alpha diversity showed consistent variation overtime, strong positive correlation nitrate concentration negatively fixed residue, electrical conductivity, calcium concentration. Surprisingly, did not show any significant neither pH nor temperature. despite their remarkable stability, different display coefficients diversity, similar purposes microbiomes. Furthermore, could be grouped according number shared into three groups: low, mid, taxa, those groups spring usage. Species belonging phyla Planctomycetes Verrucomicrobia prevalent at relatively abundance classified as low species, whereas phylum Lentisphaerae Candidate Phyla radiation higher mineral potable springs. present study constitutes an example monitoring community regional scale, provides information which useful design application future management policies Trentino.

Microbiota of sulfur-rich environments has been extensively studied due to the biotechnological potential sulfur bacteria, or as a model ancient life. Cold terrestrial springs are less compared sulfur-oxidizing microbiota hydrothermal vents, volcanic environments, soda lakes. Despite that, several studies suggested that harbor diverse microbial communities because unique geochemical conditions upwelling waters. In this study, five was examined using 16 S rRNA gene sequencing. The clear dominance Proteobacteria and Campylobacterota phyla cold observed. Contrary hot spring dominated by Aquificota Firmicutes phylum respectively. Sulfur-oxidizing genera constituted dominant part populations with Thiothrix Sulfurovum identified core in Slovakia. Additionally, study emphasizes Slovakia support unique, poorly characterized bacterial bacteria.
