The need to use environmentally friendly substances in agriculture for pest control has become increasingly urgent recent years. This was generated by humanity’s awareness of the harmful effects chemicals with increased persistence, which accumulated nature and harmed living beings. Essential oils are among most important biopesticides could significantly contribute expansion ecological agriculture, replacing traditional methods. However, judicious use, it is necessary have a thorough knowledge mechanisms these act on both useful insects. An step transitioning from theory practice adapting essential oil application technologies open fields, overcoming difficulties created their high volatility low remanence, results rapid reduction toxic effect. review proposes an in-depth, up-to-date analysis existing literature subjects, aiming provide researchers some potential future study directions practitioners solid base information regarding interaction between insects oils.

In recent times, the interest in healthy foods reconsideration is rising again. Issues related to food protection and preservation for quality safety improvements as well longer shelf-life of products are global concern. Additionally, concern on hazards associated with pesticides use human health environment growing. Thus, actions targeting investigation potentially low-risk active substances natural compounds conservation needed. this context, plant extracts including essential oils (EOs) have been recognized important sources widespread range activities. However, EOs volatile, poorly soluble water, susceptible degradation oxidation. Therefore, oil encapsulation delivery systems made components seems be a possible solution overcome these restrictions. This review focuses insecticidal potential encapsulated free forms particular emphasis types characteristics loading insecticides.

The spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii) is one of the main invasive pests small fruits in world. Thus, 19 essential oils (EOs) were selected to analyze effects through toxicity and repellency on oviposition D. suzukii adults. In addition, their lethal sublethal pupal endoparasitoid Trichopria anastrephae evaluated. EOs C. flexuosus Mentha spp. had highest observed topical application bioassay for suzukii. contrast, verum, citratus QT citratus, winterianus showed ingestion dry residues verum reduced bioassays, analyzed repelled ≅ 90% females. All evaluated using LC90 values products provided mortality less than 20% T. adults did not cause a reduction parasitism surviving We conclude that have potential be used management They can also serve as selective active ingredients formulation synthesis new biopesticides.

Application of synthetic insecticides is the most frequently used method for controlling pests. However, their indiscriminatory use has led to development resistance and high insecticide residues in environment. Natural products that have low mammalian toxicity with environmental impact, are viable alternatives pesticides. This study aimed evaluate contact, fumigant toxicity, repellent activity Litsea cubeba essential oil (EO) its major compound citral against Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura). The morphological alterations target organs microscopic damage were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) light microscopy. Contact exposure EO at 1.0 µL/cm2 resulted mortality 91.67% 24 h. Fumigant assay showed larvae reached 100% when adults exposed 100 µL/L within was µL/cm2. symptoms caused on larval epidermis uneven pigmentation darkening body. In SEM images, treated exhibited a dry cuticle surface, sensory distortions, general degeneration. intensified cytoplasmic vacuolation necrosis intestinal tract photomicrographs both extracts. can be utilized as bioinsecticide Drosophila, making it an environmentally safer option pest management fruit vegetable preservation.

Essential oils (EOs) of three native species Baccharis uncinella, B. retusa and calvescens, obtained through hydrodistillation, were analyzed by GC-MS GC-FID for seasonality, the antimicrobial anti-proliferative activities evaluated. EO calvescens uncinella consisted mainly oxygenated sesquiterpenes, while in retusa, monoterpene hydrocarbons predominant. The highest activity was observed spring against S. aureus, C. albicans summer subtilis. showed more effective than EO. This is first study it demonstrated that majority composition different all seasons year, justifying importance seasonal study. Furthermore, potent cytostatic effects K562 OVCAR-03 cell lines, respectively. For each species, PCA differentiated chemical seasonally. samples distinguished species. underscores assessing variation biological essential oils, highlighting potential compounds spathulenol, caryophyllene oxide, limonene α-pinene achieving desired product properties.
