Abstract The Lower Cretaceous Wealden Supergroup of southern England yields a diverse assemblage theropod dinosaurs, its taxa being represented by fragments in addition to some the most informative associated skeletons European Mesozoic. Spinosaurids, neovenatorid allosauroids, tyrannosauroids and dromaeosaurids are among reported clades. However, majority relevant specimens from Barremian Upper Weald Clay Wessex formations, diversity older Berriasian–Valanginian Hastings Group has remained poorly known, fragmentary thus far remaining enigmatic both terms phylogenetic affinities sometimes provenance. A better understanding would be welcome given paucity dinosaurs worldwide. Here, we describe an teeth Valanginian Wadhurst Formation, mostly collected Ashdown Brickworks locality near Bexhill, East Sussex. These were assessed using phylogenetic, discriminant machine learning analyses found include members Spinosauridae, Tyrannosauroidea Dromaeosauridae, others that remain uncertain affinity within Coelurosauria. appear distinct those already known strata: spinosaurid cannot referred Baryonyx or tyrannosauroid Eotyrannus , for example, but have not named new at this time. Combined with other findings our study indicates was comparable younger units, implying ‘characteristic’ components faunas established early deposition famous geological succession.

The Khok Pha Suam locality in the province of Ubon Ratchathani, northeastern, Thailand, is known as “the last home Thai dinosaurs”, because it belongs to Lower Cretaceous Kruat Formation (Aptian-Albian) which currently youngest Mesozoic vertebrate fossil producing formation Khorat Group. Here, we describe a diverse assemblage, including hybodonts, ray-finned fishes, turtles, crocodyliforms, pterosaurs, and dinosaurs from locality. updated data on fauna provides better understanding variety distribution Early continental ecosystems, are useful for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction. Spinosaurid dinosaurs show a wide geographical and temporal distribution, being present in Gondwanan Laurasian landmasses, at least, during the Lower Cretaceous Cenomanian. European spinosaurids are more diverse than previously thought with five, probably six, currently recognised genera. The revision of CPI 477, fragment left maxilla from La Rioja (Spain) assigned to Baryonyx, demonstrates that this specimen cannot be referred genus likely belongs an indeterminate baryonychine closer Baryonyx Suchomimus. 477 exhibits tooth replacement process comparable other theropods and, besides, similar large theropods, two teeth could simultaneously developed same alveolus, partly explaining high ratios overabundance spinosaurid some fossil sites. Furthermore, Oxalaia shares anteriorly located external naris Irritator spinosaurids, which differ retracted ones African spinosaurines. Finally, addition noticed differences between Baryonychinae Spinosaurinae, paradental groove spinosaurines differs baryonychines sinusoidal instead straight.

We report the first occurrence in South America of spinosaurid specimens belonging to clade Baryonychinae. The material comprises three tooth crowns recovered from Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian-Valanginian) Feliz Deserto Formation, State Sergipe, northeast Brazil. have typical conidont condition, displaying a fluted morphology, veined enamel texture and carinae extending cervix region, conditions similar those shared among theropods. Furthermore, notable feature is presence serrated composed 6-7 diminutive denticles per millimetre, key by baryonychine spinosaurids. Phylogenetic multivariate analyses performed on dentition-based crown-based datasets theropod taxa confirm relationship described here with well-supported clade. Our results retrieve which comprise "classically" as individual branches within polytomy includes subclade spinosaurines (Spinosaurus + Angaturama/Irritator). Additionally, discriminant cluster suggest that materials are more Suchomimus than Baryonyx morphometrically, but clearly bearing similarities baryonychines (sharing morphospace). These new findings paleogeographically expand this western Gondwana, one oldest records worldwide, brings implications hypotheses for emergence evolution these indicate taxon deltaic paleoenvironment Formation.

Postcranial elements (cervical, sacral and caudal vertebrae, as well ilium, rib limb bone fragments) belonging to a gigantic tetanuran theropod were recovered from the basal unit (the White Rock Sandstone equivalent) of Vectis Formation near Compton Chine, on southwest coast Isle Wight. These remains appear pertain same individual, with enormous dimensions similar those Spinosaurus holotype exceeding largest European theropods previously reported. A combination features—including presence spinodiapophyseal webbing an anterior vertebra—suggest that this is member Spinosauridae, though lack convincing autapomorphies precludes identification new taxon. Phylogenetic analysis supports spinosaurid affinities but we unable determine more precise position within clade weak support for Spinosaurinae or early-diverging Spinosauridae found in some data runs. Bioerosion form curved tubes evident several pieces, potentially related harvesting behaviour by coleopteran bioeroders. This first reported youngest British material referred clade. unusual majority dinosaurs Lower Cretaceous units Wealden Supergroup are fluviolacustrine deposits underlying Barremian Wessex Formation. In contrast, lagoonal facies upper Barremian–lower Aptian only rarely yield dinosaur material. Our conclusions keeping previous studies emphasise western Europe pivotal region origination diversification.

Abstract A new spinosaurid genus and species is described based on the right maxilla five caudal vertebrae of a single specimen from Arcillas de Morella Formation (Early Cretaceous) at locality Cinctorres (Castellón, Spain). Protathlitis cinctorrensis gen. et sp. nov. diagnosed by one autapomorphic feature as well unique combination characters. The autapomorphy includes subcircular depression in anterior corner antorbital fossa maxilla. Iberian recovered basal baryonychine. recognition first baryonychine dinosaur identified (late Barremian) same time Vallibonavenatrix cani , spinosaurine formation subbasin (Maestrat Basin, eastern Spain), indicates that Peninsula was home to highly diverse assemblage medium-to-large bodied dinosaurs. It seems spinosaurids appeared during Early Cretaceous Laurasia, with two subfamilies occupying western part Europe this period. Later, Barremian–Aptian, they migrated Africa Asia, where would diversify. In Europe, baryonychines were dominant, while Africa, spinosaurines most abundant.
