Abstract Background Change in body weight during the COVID-19 pandemic as an unintended side effect of lockdown measures has been predominantly reported for younger and middle-aged adults. However, information on older adults which loss is known to result adverse outcomes, scarce. Aims Describe change before, during, after explore putative associated factors with a focus period that includes first six months containment measures. Methods In this study, we analyzed longitudinal 472 participants Berlin Aging Study II (mean age 67.5 years at baseline, average follow-up time 10 years). Additionally, differences between subgroups characterized by socio-economic, cognitive, psychosocial variables well morbidity burden, biological markers (epigenetic clocks, telomere length), frailty were compared. Results On average, women men lost 0.87% (n=227) 0.5% (n=245) their per year study covering pandemic. Weight among was particularly pronounced groups physical activity due lockdown, low positive affect, premature epigenetic (7-CpG clock), diagnosed metabolic syndrome, more masculine gender score (all variables: p<0.05, n=245). Conclusions Older 2.5-times (women) 2-times (men) higher rate than what expected age.

Abstract Purpose With ageing, older adults (≥ 65 years) may experience decreased appetite, contributing to declines in body weight and muscle mass, potentially affecting physical capabilities. Physical activity (PA) has been suggested as a potential strategy enhance appetite adults, but evidence supporting this is insufficient. This study aimed investigate the relationship between PA levels, total energy expenditure (TEE), composition, intake (EI) adults. Methods One hundred eight healthy (age 70 ± 4 years; BMI 24.3 2.6 kg/m 2 ) were categorised into three groups (low, medium, high) based on accelerometer-measured level (AMPA) TEE from 7-day diaries. Body composition was measured using bioelectrical impedance. Energy nutrient intakes assessed 3-day weighed food Appetite visual analogue scales at 30-min intervals throughout 1 day. Results positively correlated with EI % mass (p < 0.05), higher associated EI. protein significantly high group than low = 0.03, p 0.01; respectively). No significant differences macronutrient observed across AMPA groups, components (hunger, fullness, desire eat, prospective consumption) did not differ either or groups. Conclusions Higher intake, playing crucial role. These findings highlight importance of considering PA, TEE, interventions improving Clinical Trail registration : clinicaltrials.gov NCT05067036. Background : There is considerable interest in evaluating 24-hr activity cycles; however, the ideal tools for doing so have yet to be identified. Monitor-based approaches are widely endorsed capturing movement, but novel methods needed assess context of physical behaviors. This study evaluated validity two thigh-worn devices assessing behaviors during a period. Methods 21 participants concurrently wore Move 4 and activPAL 3 microdevices on thigh full day then completed Activities Completed over Time 24 Hours recall survey. Equivalence tests (with as reference) mean absolute percent error were utilized device agreement (at minute levels) energy expenditure (METs), steps, time different (moderate-to-vigorous activity, light sedentary, sleep). The data used evaluate specific contexts. Findings Devices had good across steps METs at both levels. Estimates from equivalent moderate-to-vigorous whereas METs, sleep not equivalent. commonly reported activities ranged 11.31% (watching television) 20.88% (weightlifting). Conclusion was moderate-to-high convergent between profiling highlights value combining device-based report-based measures However, more research with larger diverse samples warranted.

The university population is at a vital stage of human development for acquiring an active lifestyle. Following this lifestyle will bring benefits in adulthood. This study seeks to analyse the relationship between physical activity and bodily pain, mental hyperactivity, sleep quality as function intensity activity. A comparative, descriptive, exploratory presented sample 506 students. International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Chronic Pain Grade Mental Hyperactivity Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were used. proposed model analyses relationships disturbances, time fall asleep. fit different adjustment indices satisfactory (X2 = 0.47, df 1, pl 0.48, IFI 0.99, CFI 0.97; NFI 0.91; RMSEA 0.01). relational analysis shows positive pain (r 0.02; p < 0.01), hyperactivity 0.054; disturbances 0.029; asleep 0.047; Multi-group structural equation indicates that there are differences causal quality, exercise intensity. conclusion which performed plays key role health.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and overweight/obesity are significant global public health issues. Appropriate free-time physical activity (PA) is essential for overweight/obese patients with chronic disease, but specific guidelines lacking. The present study was conducted to determine the association between PA all-cause mortality in these patients.

Background: this case-control study delves into oxidative and antioxidant markers, including Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC), lipid peroxidation, nitrites, alongside glucose levels in individuals with hyperglycemia due to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) comparison their healthy counterparts. Furthermore, the explores impact of on these variables. Methods: twenty patients diagnosed T2DM were included, along a control group 20 subjects (Control Group – CG). Glucose levels, as well markers (malondialdehyde nitrites) antioxidants, assessed blood plasma each participant. To ascertain statistically significant differences between studied variables across groups, Student t-test or Mann–Whitney tests employed. Pearson’s Linear Correlation test was utilized evaluate associations Results: TAC exhibited elevation compared CG. In patients, malondialdehyde nitrites demonstrated reduced (1.83±0.84 µM/L 29.5±16.6 µmol/L, respectively) contrast CG (4.00±1.11 82.9±29.2 respectively), both parameters showing robust positive correlation (p = 0.0002). Conclusions: manifest alterations redox state, characterized by diminished peroxidation nitrite suggesting disruptions constitutive pathway for nitric oxide production. This underscores intricate interplay stress, metabolism.
