Teacher competency and work engagement among secondary school physical education teachers: the multiple mediating roles of occupational stress, emotional exhaustion, and professional achievement

Objective
This
study
examined
the
relationships
between
teacher
competency,
occupational
stress,
emotional
exhaustion,
sense
of
professional
achievement,
and
work
engagement
among
secondary
school
physical
education
teachers.
It
also
investigated
demographic
differences
in
these
variables
tested
structural
invariance
proposed
model
across
genders.
Method
A
total
1,347
teachers
participated
study,
completing
validated
scales
to
measure
key
constructs
providing
information
such
as
gender,
age,
level,
title,
location.
Data
were
analyzed
using
descriptive
statistics,
t-tests,
one-way
ANOVA,
correlation
analysis,
equation
modeling
(SEM).
Mediation
effects
assessed
through
bootstrapping,
was
multigroup
SEM.
Results
Demographic
analyses
revealed
significant
differences.
Male
reported
higher
engagement,
while
female
experienced
slightly
greater
exhaustion.
Younger
those
with
lower
titles
stress
Rural
urban
exhibited
comparable
levels
most
variables,
except
for
reporting
Teacher
competency
directly
influenced
(28.27%
effect)
indirectly
achievement
being
strongest
mediator
(25.97%
effect).
Sequential
mediation
pathways
involving
factors
but
weaker
magnitude.
Structural
analysis
confirmed
that
consistent
genders,
demonstrating
robust
applicability
male
populations.
Conclusion
is
a
driver
operating
both
direct
indirect
mechanisms,
particularly
by
alleviating
enhancing
achievement.
These
findings
underscore
importance
interventions
aimed
at
fostering
well-being,
including
management
programs
development
opportunities,
addressing
demographic-specific
needs.
Future
research
should
employ
longitudinal
designs
consider
additional
contextual
extend
findings.
