Mental health conditions among academic staff are a growing global concern, driven by factors such as heavy workloads, job insecurity, and lack of institutional support. Anxiety, one the most common mental problems, is particularly widespread in academia, affecting cognitive function productivity. In Ukraine, ongoing war has intensified these challenges, creating unprecedented working for staff. This study investigates prevalence anxiety Ukrainian academics during wartime. It explores impact on their desire to change careers perceived effectiveness cross-sectional surveyed 429 from higher education institutions between December 2023 February 2024. Anxiety levels were measured using Generalized Disorder (GAD-7) scale, while additional questions assessed professions The data analyzed chi-squared tests, correlation analysis, Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression. findings revealed that 44.3% respondents experienced moderate (24%) or severe (20.3%) anxiety, reflecting profound psychological toll war. There was significant relationship an increased likelihood considering career change. While 90.2% viewed support important, many felt existing programs ineffective. The study examines the impact of institutional mental health support on career stability academic staff at Ukrainian universities during full-scale war, focusing accessibility, cultural alignment, and tailored initiatives provided by universities. relevance this topic arises from unprecedented stressors affecting members in higher education institutions, who face both personal professional challenges. A cross-sectional analytical design was employed, using an online survey distributed among 429 members. findings reveal that nearly half respondents frequently contemplate changing careers, highlighting substantial job instability. Accessible is associated with a 6% decrease change intentions, while supportive culture further reduces these intentions 8-9%. Notably, self-help practices emerged as most effective mechanism, 12% reduction intentions. These suggest institutions can improve retention prioritizing promoting accessible initiatives. underscores importance structured fostering resilience within community, implications for policy practice war-affected educational environments. Wartime construction of the national language identity students is an acute issue that impacts preservation society’s and stability.
