Introduction: Ketamine has garnered attention for its rapid efficacy in alleviating depressive symptoms treatment-resistant depression, offering a novel mechanism as non-monoaminergic agent. Despite potential, limited research explored mental health professionals’ perspectives on use. This study assesses the attitudes, knowledge, and concerns of Portuguese psychiatrists psychologists regarding clinical application ketamine depression. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from June 2022 to January 2024 among psychologists. The anonymous online questionnaire assessed perceptions ketamine’s therapeutic utility, risks, knowledge sources. Statistical analyses examined subgroup differences by age, sex, profession, prior psychedelic use. Results: Among 156 participants (mean age = 37.2; 68.6% female), 53.8% were psychologists, 46.2% or trainees Psychiatry. Only 35.9% reported substantial while 59% open integrating it clinically. majority expressed interest training, though 73% raised about inadequate professional training. Significant emerged, with reporting higher levels openness compared younger professionals showed greater training usage. Conclusion: There favorable attitude toward use yet educational gaps remain. Customized addressing background is essential safe effective integration depression. Further studies should focus longitudinal outcomes treatment under standardized protocols ensure safety practice.

Psychedelics, historically celebrated for their cultural and spiritual significance, have emerged as potential breakthrough therapeutic agents due to profound effects on consciousness, emotional processing, mood, neural plasticity. This review explores the mechanisms underlying psychedelics’ effects, focusing ability modulate brain connectivity circuit activity, including default mode network (DMN), cortico-striatal thalamo-cortical (CSTC) loops, relaxed beliefs under psychedelics (REBUS) model. Advanced neuroimaging techniques reveal capacity enhance functional between sensory cerebral areas while reducing connections associative areas, decreasing rigidity rendering more plastic susceptible external changings, offering insights into outcome. The most relevant clinical trials of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), psilocybin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) demonstrate significant efficacy in treating treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions such post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, with favorable safety profiles. Despite these advancements, critical gaps remain linking molecular actions efficacy. highlights need further research integrate mechanistic optimize tools both therapy understanding human cognition.

MDMA or 3,4- methylenedioxymethamphetamine is a psychoactive substance, exhibiting mild hallucinogenic properties, that became widely known as recreational party drug. However, its ability in helping individuals access deeply rooted emotions has prompted significant interest potential applications within clinical practice. MDMA’s mechanism of action involves increasing the release serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin. This process enhances neuroplasticity, fosters empathy aids trauma processing fear extinction. study aims to explore uses medicine, particularly treating mental illnesses. The article was developed using data from „PubMed” „Google Scholar” databases, with particular emphasis on articles published after 2021. When combined psychotherapy, offers therapeutic benefits, especially for patients resistant conventional treatments. Existing research primarily highlights effectiveness managing post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) anxiety disorders, emerging evidence suggesting benefits conditions like depression eating disorder. While use poses risks, controlled environment demonstrates favourable safety profile. Despite highly promising results MDMA- assisted therapy so far, additional crucial enable this drug revolutionise future treatment methods.
