Phages, the most abundant and diverse lifeforms on Earth, require strict parasitism for survival. During infection, temperate phages integrate both intracellular extracellular host information to decide between lysis lysogeny replication. While various environmental physiological factors influence lysis–lysogeny decision, recent insights into phage–bacterium interactions reveal phages’ ability communicate with bacteria, leveraging host’s quorum sensing system or small molecular signals. This article provides a succinct overview of current research advancements in this field, enhancing our understanding phage–host dynamics providing bacteria’s multicellular behavior antiviral defense.
