Terrestrial geothermal springs, reminiscent of early Earth conditions, host diverse and abundant populations Archaea. In this study, we reconstructed 2,949 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from 152 metagenomes collected over six years 48 springs in Tengchong, China. Among these MAGs, 1,431 (49%) were classified as high-quality, while 1,518 (51%) considered medium-quality. Phylogenomic analysis revealed that MAGs spanned 12 phyla, 27 classes, 67 orders, 147 families, 265 genera, 475 species. Notably, 575 (19%) represented new taxa at various taxonomic levels, 2,075 (70%) lacked nomenclature effective descriptions. The most phyla archaeal Thermoproteota, Thermoplasmatota, Micrarchaeota. DRTY, ZMQ, ZZQ predominated by Archaea, particularly Thermoproteia Thermoplasmata. These draft provide data for studying species diversity function within terrestrial spring communities, thus contributing to the conservation utilization thermophilic hyperthermophilic microbial resources.

Abstract The domain Archaea was initially characterized as extremophiles upon its proposal. Recent significant discoveries have redrawn our views of archaeal biology, encompassing the identification mesophilic groups, expansion diversity and metabolic capabilities, elucidation evolutionary relationships among archaea, bacteria, eukaryotes. are ubiquitous constitute a substantial fraction microbial biomass within sediments. Therefore, comprehending their ecological roles is paramount for understanding contributions to global geochemical cycles. In this review, we summarize archaea across various sediment ecosystems, from terrestrial inland deep‐sea environments, utilizing representative genomes supported by Genome Taxonomy Database, which encompasses habitats such hot springs, salt lakes, freshwater rivers, mangroves, estuaries, coastal regions, seafloor sediments, cold seeps, hydrothermal vents. Furthermore, integrate analyses with recent studies highlight potentials, novel enzymatic functions, related carbon, nitrogen, sulfur cycles different lineages. Finally, discuss research hotspots achievements in studies, while projecting future exploration directions. expanding capacities broadened perspective on tree life underscored critical impacts ecosystems.

Digitate siliceous sinter deposits are common in geothermal environments. They form via evaporation and precipitation of cooling silica-rich fluids passive microbial templating. Increasing interest these "finger-like" microstromatolitic sinters is related to their morphological mineralogical resemblance opaline rocks discovered by NASA's Spirit rover the Columbia Hills, Gusev crater, Mars. However, terrestrial remain understudied, specifically terms biosignature content long-term preservation potential. In this study, six digitate, (opal-A) were collected from five Taupō Volcanic Zonegeothermal fields, lipid biosignatures investigated as Mars analogs. Samples pools discharge channels varied temperatures, pH, water chemistries, with spicular nodular morphologies. Results revealed presence biomarkers unsilicified silicified communities populating hot spring sinters, including lipids terrigenous plants, algae, bacteria. Although DNA sequencing suggests that composition diversity correlated temperature, chemistry springs, environmental parameters did not seem affect recovery. morphology play a role yield, which was higher finest, needle-like spicules comparison broad, knobby sinters. ABSTRACT Active geothermal systems are relatively rare in Antarctica and represent metaphorical islands ideal to study microbial dispersal. In this study, we tested the macro‐ecological concept that high dispersal rates result communities being dominated by either habitat generalists or specialists investigating on four geographically separated sites three Antarctic volcanoes (Mts. Erebus, Melbourne, Rittman). We found at higher temperature (max 65°C) (Tramway Ridge Erebus Rittmann) were unique from each other a variety of novel Archaea class Nitrososphaeria , while lower 50°C) (Western Crater Melbourne) had characteristically mesophilic ( Planctomycetes, Acidobacteriota, etc.) highly similar. 97% detected taxa regional specialists, with no generalists, community assembly driven drift (25% 30% assembly, respectively), not environmental selection. Our results indicate for experiencing between isolated communities, may tend out‐compete generalists.

The Kuril Islands are located in the Far-East of Russia and enriched with shallow terrestrial hot springs. Prokaryotic diversity geothermal environments has been studied fragmentarily mainly by culture-dependent methods. We performed first large-scale investigation microbial communities, inhabited more than 30 springs Kunashir Iturup Islands, analyzed 16S rRNA gene fragment amplicon sequencing, together chemical analysis thermal waters sediments. Circumneutral Bacterial group containing pH 5.7–8.5 temperature 40–79 °C possessed highest biodiversity consisted almost entirely Bacteria. Cyanobacteriota (the Leptolyngbyaceae Oculatellaceae families) phototrophic Chloroflexota dominated mats temperatures up to 60 °C. higher ones were Aquificota (Sulfurihydrogenibium Hydrogenobacter species). Acidic (pH 2.2–3.6, 41–64 °C) genera Acidithiobacillus, Hydrogenobaculum Thiomonas. Archaea Acidianus, Metallosphaera, Thermoplasma Caldisphaera spp. as well uncultivated lineages ('Ca. Marsarchaeales', 'Ca. Caldiarchaeum', BSLdp215) abundant Archaeal 1.5–2.9, 50–94 °C). composition strongly correlated moderately water chemistry, while degree correlation between communities' compositions location was low.
