A variety of psychiatric, behavioral and cognitive phenotypes have been linked to brain ''functional connectivity'' -- the pattern correlation observed between different regions. Most commonly assessed using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), here, we investigate connectivity-phenotype associations with connectivity measured electroencephalography (EEG), phase-coupling. We analyzed data from publicly available Healthy Brain Network Biobank. This database compiles a growing sample children adolescents, currently encompassing 1657 individuals. Among assessment instruments focus on ten phenotypic additional demographic measures that capture most variance in this sample. The largest effect sizes are found for age sex both fMRI EEG. replicate previous findings an association Intelligence Quotient (IQ) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) connectivity. also find socioeconomic status, anxiety Child Behavior Checklist Score. For EEG significant relationship IQ. actual spatial patterns quite source-space However, within observe clusters consistent across frequency bands. Additionally reproducibility compare obtained tasks, including resting state, video visual flicker task. variation tasks was smaller than variability subjects. increase reliability increasing EEG, increased sampling duration. conclude that, while distinct phase-coupling they nonetheless similar their robustness task, idiosyncratic predict individual phenotypes.

Autism is a diagnostic label based on behavior. Non-human primate neuroimaging is a rapidly growing area of research that promises to transform and scale translational cross-species comparative neuroscience. Unfortunately, the technological methodological advances past two decades have outpaced accrual data, which particularly challenging given relatively few centers necessary facilities capabilities. The PRIMatE Data Exchange (PRIME-DE) addresses this challenge by aggregating independently acquired non-human magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) datasets openly sharing them via International Neuroimaging Data-sharing Initiative (INDI). Here, we present rationale, design, procedures for PRIME-DE consortium, as well initial release, consisting 25 independent data collections aggregated across 22 sites (total = 217 primates). We also outline unique pitfalls challenges should be considered in analysis MRI datasets, including providing automated quality assessment contributed datasets.

BackgroundThere is considerable interest in a dimensional transdiagnostic approach to psychiatry. Most studies have derived factors based only on clinical symptoms, which might miss possible links between psychopathology, cognitive processes, and personality traits. Furthermore, many psychiatric focus higher-order association brain networks, thereby neglecting the potential influence of huge swaths brain.MethodsA multivariate data-driven (partial least squares) was used identify latent components linking large set clinical, cognitive, measures whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity patterns across 224 participants. The use of movie-watching as an acquisition state for functional connectivity (FC) MRI has recently enabled multiple groups to obtain rich data sets in younger children with both substantial sample sizes and scan durations. Using naturalistic paradigms such movies also provided analytic flexibility these developmental studies that extends beyond conventional resting approaches. This review highlights the advantages challenges using neuroimaging explores some methodological issues involved designing pediatric movies. Emerging themes from are discussed, including emphasis on intersubject correlations, changes network interactions under complex conditions, dynamic age-related sensory higher-order FC even narrow age ranges. Converging evidence suggests enhanced ability identify brain-behavior correlations when relative tasks. Future directions cautionary notes highlight potential limitations study populations.

Two ongoing movements in human cognitive neuroscience have researchers shifting focus from group-level inferences to characterizing single subjects, and complementing tightly controlled tasks with rich, dynamic paradigms such as movies stories. Yet relatively little work combines these two, perhaps because traditional analysis approaches for naturalistic imaging data are geared toward detecting shared responses rather than between-subject variability. Here, we review recent using stimuli study individual differences, advance a framework structure idiosyncratic patterns of brain activity, or "idiosynchrony". Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) tractography is an advanced technique that enables in vivo reconstruction of the brain's white matter connections at macro scale. It provides important tool for quantitative mapping structural connectivity using measures or tissue microstructure. Over last two decades, study brain dMRI has played a prominent role neuroimaging research landscape. In this paper, we provide high-level overview how used to enable analysis health and disease. We focus on types analyses tractography, including: 1) tract-specific refers typically hypothesis-driven studies particular anatomical fiber tracts, 2) connectome-based more data-driven generally entire brain. first review methodology involved three main processing steps are common across most approaches including methods correction, segmentation quantification.
