Propolis is commercialized in Chile as an antimicrobial agent. It obtained mainly from central and southern Chile, but used for the same purposes regardless of its origin. To compare effect, total phenolic (TP), flavonoid (TF) content composition, 19 samples were collected main production centers Región del Maule, Chile. Samples extracted with MeOH assessed activity against Gram (+) (−) bacteria. TP TF content, antioxidant by DPPH, FRAP TEAC methods also determined. Sample composition was HPLD-DAD-ESI-MS/MS. Differential compounds isolated characterized. The effect showed MICs ranging 31.5 to > 1000 µg/mL. valley more effective antibacterial than those coastal area or Andean slopes. considered interest (MIC ≤ 62.5 µg/mL) on Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas sp., Yersinia enterocolitica Salmonella enteritidis. Two new diarylheptanoids, a diterpene, flavonoids pinocembrin chrysin elucidated spectroscopic spectrometric means. Some 29 dereplicated HPLC-MS tentatively identified, including nine flavones/flavonol derivatives, one flavanone, eight dihydroflavonols phenyl-propanoids. Maule large variation composition. So far presence diarylheptanoids can be marker type propolis.

Background: Propolis (or bee glue), collected from botanical sources by honey bee, has been used as a popular natural remedies in folk medicine throughout the world. This study was conducted to assess growth inhibitory effects of ethanol extracts propolis (EEPs) 20 different regions South Korea on human intestinal bacteria well their β-amyloid precursor cleavage enzyme (BACE-1), acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory, antioxidant, antiproliferative, and anti-human rhinovirus activities. Methods: The Bonferroni multiple-comparison method test for significant differences total polyphenol flavonoid contents among EEP samples using SAS 9.13 program.Correlation coefficient (r) analysis biological activities determined 50 % inhibition concentration or minimal values native Korean samples. Results: amounts flavonoids ranged 49 239 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g (Brazilian, Chinese, Australian samples, 127-142 GAE/g EEP) 21 quercetin (QE)/g 33-53 QE/g EEP), respectively.Correlation showed that may be negatively correlated with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity (r = -0.872)and content no correlation 0.071).No direct between BACE-1 inhibition, AChE antiproliferative found.Gram-positive Gram-negative were observed have degrees antimicrobial susceptibility examined, although ciprofloxacin bacterial groups did not differ greatly. Conclusions: Further studies will warrant possible applications potential therapeutic blocker, agent, agent.

New information has come to light about the biological activity of propolis and quality natural products which requires a rapid reliable assessment method such as High Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) fingerprinting. This study investigates chromatographic chemometric approaches for determining antimicrobial Serbian origin against various bacterial species. A linear multivariate calibration technique, using Partial Least Squares, was used extract relevant from fingerprints, i.e. indicate peaks represent phenolic compounds that are potentially responsible capacity samples. In addition, direct bioautography performed localize antibacterial on chromatograms. The samples species determined by minimum inhibitory concentration assay, confirming their affiliation with European poplar type revealing existence two types (blue orange) according botanical origin. strongest exhibited sample 26 Staphylococcus aureus, MIC value 0.5 mg/mL, Listeria monocytogenes, low 0.1 also lowest effective observed in our study. Generally, orange shows higher compared blue type. PLS modelling HPTLC data set resulting models might qualitatively play an important role most influencing all strains were at RF values 0.37, 0.40, 0.45, 0.51, 0.60 0.70. knowledge gained through this could be attributing specific chemical compounds, well verification fingerprinting identification activity. is first report several combined methods, including

Chemical composition of propolis samples from north Algeria was characterized by chromatographic and spectroscopic analyses. High-performance liquid chromatorgaphy with diode-array detection (HPLC-DAD) fingerprint the methanol extracts allowed definition two main types Algerian (AP) directly related to their secondary metabolite composition. Investigation representative AP preparative procedure mass spectrometric (MS) NMR techniques led identification constituents: caffeate esters flavonoids an type rich in phenolic compounds (PAP) labdane clerodane diterpenes, together a polymethoxyflavonol, containing mainly diterpenes (DAP). Subsequently, specific HPLC-MS/MS methods for PAP DAP markers were developed study chemical different regions. Antioxidant activity evaluated 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) assay, significant free-radical scavenging effect observed series polyphenols.
