While tensions exist between parsimony and completeness, it appears that structural uncertainty is more important than parameter equifinality in controlling rainfall-runoff model performance.

There is a well-established need for increased stakeholder participation in the generation of adaptive management approaches and specific solutions to complex environmental problems. However, integrating participant feedback into current science, research, decision-making processes challenging. This paper presents novel approach that marries rigorous Delphi method, borrowed from policy organizational sciences, with contemporary "crowdsourcing" address problems water pollution exacerbated by climate change Lake Champlain Basin. In an online forum occurred over six-week period during Spring 2014, fifty-three participants proposed commented on quality context change. follow up Multi-Stakeholder workshop, thirty-eight stakeholders participated refining synthesizing results forum. To inform modeling dialogue, resulting list interventions was analyzed time horizon, domain, type adaptation action, priority level. The suggested within crowdsourcing have contributed dialogue Vermont including legislation phosphorus loading Champlain. strengthens traditional scenario development include priorities been collectively refined vetted.

Abstract Globally, phytoplankton abundance is increasing in lakes as a result of climate change and land‐use change. The relative importance drivers has been examined primarily for mesotrophic eutrophic lakes. However, oligotrophic show different sensitivity to than lakes, necessitating further exploration the contribution two increased abundance. Here, we investigated how air temperature (a driver related change) nutrient load interact alter water quality Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, USA. We used long‐term data one‐dimensional hydrodynamic General Model (GLM) coupled with Aquatic EcoDyanmics (AED) modules simulate quality. Over 31‐year simulation, summer median chlorophyll‐ concentration was positively associated temperature, whereas annual maximum previous 3 years external phosphorus load. Scenario testing demonstrated 2°C increase significantly concentration, but not concentration. For both doubling loads total nitrogen at same time, or alone, resulted significant increase. This study highlights aligning lake measurements ecosystem metrics interest, may be more uniquely sensitive that typical due warming alone.
