Abstract Benzene centered tris‐alkylimidazolium bromide salts, denoted as BTIm(R) 3 Br ; where R=C 12 H 25 and C 14 29 have been prepared structurally characterised. The hydrogelation ability stabilizer role of these salts for the synthesis silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) via chemical reduction method is described. A worth note that BTIm(C ) compound could lead a thermoreversible fibrous‐hydrogel in water, which plays dual directing agent dendritic nanostructures. While partial‐hydrogel contributes nanospheres. non‐gel solutions dichloromethane, water stabilizers did not show control over shape AgNPs, they mixed morphology. experimental conditions, i. e . temperature, heating‐cooling process physical state play key hydrogel morphology Ag Overall, outcome present study provides new possibility use fibrous gels to prepare dendrites.

This Review covers the recent developments (2005–2015) in design, synthesis, characterization, and application of thermotropic ionic liquid crystals. It was designed to give a comprehensive overview "state-of-the-art" field. The discussion is focused on low molar mass dendrimeric mesogens, as well selected metal-containing compounds (metallomesogens), but some references polymeric and/or lyotropic crystals particularly liquids will also be provided. Although zwitterionic mesoionic mesogens are treated extent, emphasis directed toward liquid-crystalline materials consisting organic cations organic/inorganic anions that not covalently bound interact via electrostatic other noncovalent interactions.

A series of cholesteryl-containing imidazolium chlorides and tetrachloroaluminates were synthesised, the chemical structure, liquid crystalline behaviour ionic conductivity characterised by several technical methods. Whereas show chiral smectic (SmA*) phase on heating cooling cycles, display nematic (N*) phase, which is uncommon for crystals (ILCs). The similar transition temperature entropy, indicating cholesteryl component influence predominately rather than different alkyl substituent groups. lower melting point temperatures clear chlorides. mesophases exist at moderate temperatures. Non-mesomorphic tetrachloroaluminate(III) salts with short substituents have been known a long time, synthesised are first examples tetrahalogenoaluminate(III)-containing ILCs. For tetrachloroaluminates, cations combine loosely AlCl4− ions because large occupy more space in spite hydrogen bond electrostatic attraction interaction, that layer structure can be destroyed easily to form N* heating.

The incorporation of a hexadecyl group on imidazolium, pyridinium, and pyrrolidinium scaffolds produces low-molecular-weight ionic organogelators that can gel several types liquids, deep eutectic solvents (DESs), molecular organic solvents. Minimum gelator concentrations fall in the 0.9-15.0% (w/v) range, with lower end observed gelation DESs. On basis polarized optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray data, crystallization these salts appear to produce high-surface-area crystals, which generate sufficiently stable three-dimensional networks are capable trapping solvent molecules. The synthesis and characterization of tetranuclear silver triazole metallomesogens, [Ag4(L(4)-C(n))6][BF4]4 (L(4)-C(n) = 4-alkyl-1,2,4-triazoles where C(n) stands for C(n)H(2n+1) with n 12, 14, 16, 18), are reported. Upon heating, a phase transition sequence Cr → SmC Cub SmA isotropic liquid is observed all these compounds. Depending on the alkyl chain length, two types cubic phases found in this series Those shorter chains (n 12 14) exhibit micellar phase, whereas long =16 18) show bicontinuous phase. Superior ionic conductivity at mesophase [Ag4(L4-C16)6][BF4]4 because presence three-dimensional ion-transporting channel. Doping small amount AgBF4 enhances conduction dramatically, presumably via promotion migration Ag(I) ions channels.

A series of polymerized ionic liquid crystals (PILCs) bearing fluorinated cholesteryl mesogens were synthesized in this work, which include imidazolium bromides (PIBs) and hexafluorophosphates (PIHs). The PIBs using alkyl bromine-containing polysiloxanes 1-butyl-1H-imidazole, the PIHs by anion metathesis reaction corresponding KPF6. chemical structures, crystalline (LC) properties, electrorheological (ER) effect these PILCs characterized use various experimental techniques. All showed smectic mesophase on heating cooling cycles. layer structure are originated from rigid flexible moieties LC phase, but ion pairs (imidazolium cations–PF6−, Im+–PF6−; or cations–Br−, Im+–Br−) can disperse polysiloxane matrix expand d-spacing layers. show lower Tg Ti than precursor PIBs, is due to larger volume Im+–PF6− for that Im+–Br− PIBs. 40 V% ER fluids prepared mixing with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), behaviors studied. PILC/PDMS effect, PIH/PDMS a little greater PIB/PDMS fluids.
