The encapsulation of colloidal lead halide perovskite nanocrystals within silica (SiO2) is one the strategies to protect them from polar solvents and other external factors. Here, we demonstrate overcoating CsPbBr3 with by exploiting anhydride-induced transformation Cs4PbBr6 nanocrystals. CsPbBr3@SiO2 core–shell are obtained after (i) a reaction between maleic anhydride in toluene that yields maleamic acid (ii) silica-shell growth around via hydrolysis added alkoxysilanes. necessary promote shell formation alkoxysilanes, as demonstrated control experiments. best samples as-prepared consist ∼10 nm single-crystal cores surrounded ∼5–7 amorphous shell. Despite their structure, such nanostructures poor emitters degrade minutes exposure ethanol. photoluminescence intensity improved treatment solution PbBr2 ligands, stability ethanol extended several days applying an additional step. Overall, investigated approach outlines strategy for making utilizing transformative chemistry metal halides reveals interesting insights regarding conditions required nanocrystal formation.

Abstract Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have become a promising candidate in myriad of applications, such as light‐emitting diodes, solar cells, lasing, photodetectors, photocatalysis, transistors, etc. This is related to the synergy their excellent features, including high photoluminescence quantum yields, narrow and tunable emission, long charge carrier lifetimes, broad absorption spectrum along with extinction absorptions coefficients, among others. However, main bottleneck poor stability MHPs under ambient conditions. imposing severe restrictions respect industrialized applications commercialization. In this context, metal oxide (MO x ) coatings recently emerged an efficient strategy toward overcoming stabilities issues well retaining properties MHPs, therefore facilitate development devices’ performances. review provides summary recent progress on synthetic methods, enhanced techniques assess MHPs@MO composites, . Specially, novel approaches fabricate composites new are also reported for first time. rounded by critical outlook about current MHPs’ further direction ensure bright future
