Diamondoids have emerged as promising carbon-based nanomaterial building blocks because of their unique combination exceptional properties and availability for selective functionalization. Until now, the chemical functionalization diamondoids was primarily based on solution methods. However, limited solubility diamondoid derivatives tendency to sublimate at even slightly elevated temperatures made it difficult prepare more extensive scaffolds. Here, we present first mechanochemical synthesis several ethers differing in type, size, number hydrocarbon cage subunits. We found that efficient preparation these is enabled solely by high-temperature ball milling conditions does not proceed under ambient conditions. When compared conventional same ether derivatives, calculated green chemistry metrics showed enormous sustainability benefits synthesis. The approach includes shorter reaction times, a inorganic base, simplified workup procedure, comparable or superior yields, elimination solvents Furthermore, crystal structures obtained from single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments confirmed molecular target products gave insight into intermolecular interactions solid state. From perspective future applicability materials nanotechnology, cost are paramount. demonstrated herein mechanochemistry viable option this challenge.

Abstract Transition‐metal‐catalyzed α‐arylations of carbonyl compounds have shown to be a useful strategy for the late‐stage synthesis α‐arylesters. However, use strong basic conditions and difficult handling necessary in‐situ preparation enolates is major disadvantage. On other hand, using Reformatsky zinc‐enolates can overcome these challenges. Moreover, mechanochemical activation zinc even more beneficial. Herein, we report Pd‐catalyzed cross‐coupling between generated Zn‐enolates aryl halides. This operationally simple procedure affords α‐arylated esters or amides an affordable catalytic system. Reactions were carried under air ambient granulated without need its pre‐activation. Less reactive commercially bromides afforded desired products in good excellent yields comparison iodides. The optimized applied scale‐up reaction esters, amides, derivatives natural products.
